He married Rachel Bircham, daughter of John Bircham and Susannah (?), on 15 April 1781 at Washington Co., PA. Daniel Soesbe died on 4 March 1841 at Honey Creek Twp., Vigo Co., IN, at age 85

Obituary:

Died on the fourth day of March, 1841, at his residence in Honey Creek Twp. in this county, Mr. Daniel Soesbe, in the 86th year of his age. He served three years as a soldier in our Revolutionary struggle and bore an active part in the scenes of that trying period. He emigrated to Shelby Co., Ky., soon after the Revolution and there underwent all the difficulties and privations incident to Indian warfare. For a number of years he has resided in Vigo county and leaves behind him a good name as a legacy to his children. He was an exemplary member of the Baptist Church.

Greene County

On this first day of October eighteen hundred & thirty-two personally appeared in open court, before the Judges of the Circuit Court of the County of Greene aforesaid, now setting Daniel Soesby, a resident of the County aforesaid, aged seventy seven years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832, that he enlisted in the Service of the United States early in September 1776 for three years, that he enlisted at Catfish (now Washington, Pennsylvania) under Capt. Vanswearingham, in the eighth Pennsylvania Regiment commanded at the lines by Col. McCoy & Lieut. Col. Wilson & Major Butler, that he marched during the succeeding winter with said Regiment to New Jersey & was stationed at Bondbrook until part of the Regiment was captured by the enemy, that after the death of Col. McCoy, Capt. Vanswearinghams company was attached to Col. Morgans Rifle Regiment & were marched against Genl. Burgoyne & that he was engaged throughout the Campaign of 1777, that in the Spring of 1778 they were marched through the State of Pennsylvania westward & that at Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh) he joined the expedition against the western Indians under the command of Genl. McIntosh, that he assisted in building Fort McIntosh on the Ohio River at the mouth of Big Beaver Creek, & also Fort Lawrence* at the Tuskarora*, that he was afterwards in the Spring of 1779 Stationed about three months at said Fort Lawrence under the command of Capt. Findley whose testimony accompanies this Declaration, that he faithfully served out his three years & was honorably discharged at Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh) that the only documentary evidence now in his possession is a receipt for the delivery of his Rifle Gun signed by the quartar master & dated on the day on which he was discharged, & the affidavit of Perry Th---** herewith sent, that he entered the service as above stated by voluntary enlistment & at the time of said enlistment he lived about two miles from Red Stone old fort (since called Brownsville) in Pennsylvania, that he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity accept the present & he declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any state. Sworn to & subscribed the day & year aforesaid in open court.

     Daniel Soesbe was born on 18 June 1789 On this 28th day of December 1843 personally appeared before me Jesse Jones, a justice of the Peace in and for the said county of Vigo, Daniel Soesbe, a resident of said county, aged fifty-seven years past, who being by me first duly sworn, according to law upon his oath, says, that he is a son of Daniel & Rachel Soesbe of the county of Vigo & state of Indiana, that his father the said Daniel Soesbe, was a Pensioner of the United States, & placed on the Indiana Pension Roll & Agency at the rate of eighty dollars per annum first at Corydon & lastly at Madison, that his father the said Daniel Soesbe died in Vigo County Indiana on the on the 4th of March 1841, that his mother the said Rachel Soesbe, is now living in the said county of Vigo & has never as yet intermarried with any other person since the death of her husband as aforesaid, that he has known his said father & mother to live together as man and wife from his earliest recollections to the death of his father as aforesaid which he can speak of as far back as the last fifty years and that this affiant has one brother and two sisters older than he is, children of the said Daniel and Rachel, his parents, that the family Record of the births of their children and he thinks the ages & marriage of his said father and mother as sent to the commissioner of Pensions, in company with his mother's Pension claim in August last, he has been acquainted with ever since his earliest recollection, that he knows and believes it to be the hand writing of his father, from what he has heard his father say of that record & from his acquaintance with the record and the hand write in which it was made. The Bible out of which the record was taken is a very ancient one of the old style and size and is considerably emaciated & worn & ragged & is now in the possession of the said Rachel his mother; That his older brother John was at Mobile at last intelligence from him in the year 1812 & that his elder sister Susannah is in Iowa Territory & his next older sister in Green county, Indiana.
