James Harney Stover1

M, b. 17 March 1849
     Note: James H. Stover was raised at Ladoga, Ind. and attended the Ladoga Academy, and in 1865 entered Transylvania University at Lexington, Ky., and attended four years in two colleges -- College of Literature, Science, and Arts and College of the Bible.
A severe sickness defeated his graduation. After leaving college, he resided in Indiana, Iowa, Colorado and Kentucky, and in 1884 removed from South Bend, Ind. to Milwaukee, Wis., where he has since resided. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1892 at Milwaukee, and has been a Court Commissioner of Milwaukee Co., Wis., since 1903. Since 1915, he has been in partnership with his four sons under the firm name of Stover & Stover. It is probably the only firm of lawyers of its kind. Mr. Stover has always been in the forefront of every movement for the betterment of society; is a member of many societies and clubs and has always been a firm advocate of the Christian Religion. He was a classmate in Transylvania University with Dr. Virgil P. Gibney and James Lane Allen of N. Y. City and of former Speaker Champ Clark of Missouri and of Ex-Gov. Benton McMillan of Tennessee.2 James Harney Stover was Christian.1 He was born on 17 March 1849 at Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., IN.1 He was the son of Daniel C. Stover and Frances Macy Harney.1 James Harney Stover married Isabella Dunning Spoor, daughter of John Singer Spoor and Mariette Byington, on 28 September 1876 at Burlington, Racine Co., WI.1 James Harney Stover lived in 1926 at 744 Van Buren Street, Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co., WI.2

James Mitchell Stover1

     James Mitchell Stover was born on 29 April 1847 at Greencastle, Franklin Co., PA.1 He was the son of Jacob Price Stover and Elizabeth Emmert.1 James Mitchell Stover married Anna Reichard, daughter of Dr. Valentine Reichard and Catharine Wolf, on 13 September 1876.1 James Mitchell Stover died circa 1921 at Fruitdale, Washington Co., AL, At the age of 17, Mr. Stover managed the home farm near Greencastle, Pa. for his brother Jacob while the latter served in the army, and at 19 taught school. He afterward with his brother Jacob in the nursery business, which led to the planting of a large peach orchard of 5,000 trees at Edgemont, Md., on the west slope of the South Mountain. The success of this orchard led to the planting of over 1,000,000 peach trees in western Maryland and southern Pennsylvania, bringing wealth and prosperity to many families and land owners and advancing the standing and morality of the people along the slopes, where the land had formerly been considered almost worthless for farming purposes. In 1896, he moved to Fruitdale, Alabama, a promising fruit section, where he now resides. Here a promising colony of northern people, principally of the German Baptist Brethren, have established a seminary, college and church, which center is attracting home seekers, who are in search of a mild and healthful climate, from many of the northern and western states. All the members of his family and himself have adopted the faith of their great ancestor, Bishop William Stover. (Fretz.)1
