Wounded in Germany and awarded Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

He was degree in 1948 at Ohio State University, Columbus, Franklin Co., OH, B.Sc., Business Administration. He married Betty Irene Evans. James M. Schaller was degree in 1950 at Ohio State University College of Law, Columbus, Franklin Co., OH, J.D. He died on 15 October 2007 at Licking or Brown Co., OH, at age 83

James M. Schaller Jr.

Aug. 20, 1924 -- Oct. 15, 2007

A memorial service for James M. Schaller Jr., 83, of Newark, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta Funderal and Cremation Serivce, with Pastor Terry Priest officiating. Inurnment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Schaller died Oct. 15, 2007, at his residence. He was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Newark, to the late James M. and Marie (Hirst) Schaller.
Jim was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army with the 80th Infantry Division of the European Campaign. He was wounded in Germany near the Rhine River and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Jim was a 1942 graduate of Newark High School. After his discharge from the service, he attended the Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1948. He received a juris doctorate from the Ohio State University College of Law in 1950.
Jim served as an assistant Licking County prosecutor. He was the first appointed magistrate in the Licking County Common Pleas Court and served in that capacity until his retirement.
Jim was a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and past-president of the Licking County Bar Association. He was a member of the Lions Club, Newark Maennerchor, Elks Lodge 391, Moundbuilders Country Club, American Legion, VFW, Disabled American Veterans ans served on the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Commission.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Irene (Evans) Schaller; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen Schaller and Kim Flemming and Mark and Teri Schaller, all of Newark; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and David Johnson of Seattle, Wash; five grandchildren, Kate (John) Anderson, of Atlanta, Ga., Quinn Schaller of Athens, Wesley Frost, of Columbus, Nicholas (Erin) Frost, of Newark and Andrew (Lindsey) Frost, of Lima; and great-grandson Maxwell James Frost, of Newark.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home, 59 N. Fifth St., Newark.

Mustered out on 23 Aug 1865. He lived on 2 June 1880 at New Albany Twp., Story Co., IA, farming, widowed, his daughter Nellie was living with her Schandelmeier grandparents.1 He married Ellen Jane Smith, daughter of Reuben Smith and Sarah Ann Gross, on 1 July 1880 at Story Co., IA. Frederick Schandelmeier and Ellen Jane Smith were divorced before July 1891. Frederick Schandelmeier died on 20 August 1907 at Marshalltown, Marshall Co., IA, at age 62

Fred Schandelmeier, a well known old soldier of this city for many years passed away at the Soldiers Home in Marshalltown at 10:00 o'clock Tuesday evening, from a complication of liver and kidney troubles, aged 62 years, 2 months and 26 days. The remains were brought to Boone Wednesday morning and taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Carrie Westberg 204 Benton street. The funeral services were held from the home at 10:30 o'clock yesterday morning conducted by the Rev. C.E. Tingley, burial in East Linwood cemetery. Many of the veterans who are in the city attending the reunion attended the services of their comrade.

He was buried in August 1907 at Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, Boone Co., IA, Findagrave #22979230.

LYONS - Phyllis Marie Schardein Wiens was born at the family farm southwest of Nickerson, KS, to Ray Oliver Schardein and Inez Marie Ewing Schardein, Nov 17, 1922.

Phyllis graduated from Fairview Grade School in Reno County, Nickerson High School class of 1940. She attended Hutchinson Community Junior College. Phyllis worked at Fred Harvey House as a Harvey House waitress, numerous other part-time jobs and at Cessna Aircraft, where she helped build Gliders for the World War II effort. In Sept of 1941, she joined the United States "Waves" and served at the Great Lakes Naval Air Station, where she was a Flight Instrument Technician until Sept of 1945. Phyllis later attended Kansas State College, later renamed Kansas State University, where she got a degree in Home Economics and Interior Design. She was then employed by International Harvester as a Home Ecomomist, demonstrating their new lines of Home appliances. She would hold home demonstration group and community demonstrations.

She worked for Smokey Hill Electric at Ellsworth, doing similar demonstrations, Ark Valley Electric Co-Op hired her away and she became their first Home Electrification Advisor. On one of her home visits on Aug 13, 1952, she met Loren Wiens, they married on Nov 16, 1952, at Hutchinson Presbyterian Church. They took over the Wiens' farm in March of 1953, where they lived until May 7, 2007, when they experienced two major floods and wind-storms, causing them to choose to move to north of Lyons with their daughter, Jacque. Their first child, Jacque Charisse Wiens was born Feb 3, 1956, she survives.
Their second child, Leland Kurt Wiens, was born 17 Jan 1958. He passed away Aug 3, 1964, from drowning in a Fort Morgan, Colorado swimming pool. Phyllis was a homemaker and an Avon representative for 23 years. On Feb 1, 1977, she opened the S.H.E. Shoppe, a gift and collectible shop in Lyons, which she has continuously operated. Her memberships included: Chase Community Presbyterian Church, where she served on various committees and was a past Session Member. During her military duty she became a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Loren; daughter, Jacque Wiens; four nephews, Kenneth and Vickie McFarland, Kevin and Linda McFarland, both of Nickerson, Doug and Barbara Sykes of Kamiah, Idaho, Stan and Carol Sykes of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Marilyn McFarland.

Funeral service will be held at 5 pm Saturday Oct 15, 2011, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with burial in Lyons Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation 2 to 7 pm Friday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 pm, Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Memorials in lieu of flowers, to the Bell and Star Fund or Community Presbyterian Church, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
