Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Charlie Joe Schafer, 88, of Glasscock County passed away February 2, 2020 after a three-and-a-half-year battle with Dementia.

Before Charlie was stricken, he was a very social person, had many friends and was always happy to have company pop in for a visit.

He was an avid Golfer, loved tending to a beautiful yard, and planting an overflowing garden every year. His yard was referred to as a “Garden of Eden” in the middle of a desert. He always made sure to over plant his vegetable gardens each year so friends and neighbors could enjoy his favorite hobby along with family. He had a true green thumb. He always said he inherited that green thumb from his mother.

He was the grandson of Pioneer Ranchers of Glasscock County, and is the last of the Ben and Maude Carter Schafer family, ranchers in the Glasscock area. Charlie was born at the family ranch March 22, 1931.

Charlie married Barbara Moreland in Big Spring, Texas in 1951. They were married for 62 years.

Charlie and Barbara had three daughters, Cindy, Penny and Rosie. Those three daughters gave them seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Charlie is pre-deceased by his parents, wife, three brothers, 2 sisters, one grandson.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 7, 2020, at the Garden City Cemetery under the direction of Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Pay your respects online at www.myersandsmith.com.
