     Mary Ann Shadow was born on 4 September 1850 at Indiana. She married Elijah Stoneburner on 24 December 1871 at Kosciusko Co., IN. Mary Ann Shadow died on 4 December 1931 at Indiana at age 81.

     Amanda Shadwell was born on 11 November 1911. She married Wilbur Gochenouer, son of Joseph Gochenouer and Delsa Emma Tipton, on 23 April 1932 at Columbus, Franklin Co., OH.

     Mary Elizabeth Shadwell was born circa 1829. She married Samuel Hart on 30 August 1849 at Guernsey Co., OH. Mary Elizabeth Shadwell died in 1866 at Noble Co., OH.

     Brooks Miller Shady was born on 8 September 1903 at Wells Co., IN. He married Mildred Doll, daughter of Lee Ross Doll and Georgia A. Windell, before 1 April 1935, no children. Brooks Miller Shady died on 29 May 1965 at Bluffton, Wells Co., IN, at age 61. He was buried in 1965 at Elm Grove Cemetery, Bluffton, Wells Co., IN, Find A Grave Memorial# 54023505.

     Martha Shady married Martin Beery, son of Eli Beery and Hattie Blosser, on 17 October 1872.

     Leah Shaeffer was born on 14 March 1861 at Pennsylvania.¹ She was the daughter of Martin Shaeffer and Leah Shirk.² Leah Shaeffer married David Hershey Forney, son of Edmund Forney and Elizabeth Hershey, on 25 December 1884. Leah Shaeffer died on 8 February 1947 at Fresno Co., CA, at age 85.

     Martin Shaeffer was born on 7 December 1813 at Ephrata, Lancaster Co., PA.¹ He married Leah Shirk in 1838 at Pennsylvania.¹ Martin Shaeffer lived in 1880 at West Point, Stephenson Co., IL.¹ He died on 3 March 1887 at Stephenson Co., IL, at age 73.

     Alice Shafer was born circa 1868 at Highland Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of John Shafer and Marian Shear.¹
Note: Possibly this was the Alice Shaffer, age 12, "Apprentice", living with the Ephraim Castello family in Washington Twp., Warren County, Ohio as of the 1880 census. If so, she also might be the Alice L. Shaffer who married William C. Vandervoort on 25 NOV 1886, Warren County, Ohio, and had children Ethel, John, and Glenn Vandervoort. Alice and William are last found in public records living at Newby, Creek Co., OK as of the 1930 census. DLB 2021.

     Amanda Emaline Shafer was also known as "Mandy" The Shafer/Shaffer family that settled in early Highland County, Ohio, from Pennsylvania, was large and is not fully documented. I assume that John Shafer, father of Samuel Hutchinson's first wife Margaret, and John Shafer, father of Samuel's second wife Amanda, were closely related, but that relationship remains to be documented. She was born on 24 August 1862 at Highland Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of John Shafer and Marian Shear.¹ Amanda Emaline Shafer married Samuel Hutchinson, son of Benjamin Hutchinson and Frances Rankins, on 14 March 1878 at Clinton Co., OH. Amanda Emaline Shafer lived on 7 June 1880 at Union Twp., Clinton Co., OH, keeping house.² She married William F. Jackson on 3 June 1905 at Greene Co., OH. Amanda Emaline Shafer lived on 30 April 1930 at Lower Valley Pike, Bethel Twp., Clark Co., OH, married, keeping house, with son Charles and granddaughter Jean Hutchinson in the household.³ She died on 29 March 1933 at Fairfield, Greene Co., OH, at age 70.      Benjamin Marks Shafer was born on 25 August 1925 at Big Spring, Howard Co., TX. He was the son of Benjamin Myers Shafer and Maude Katherine Carter. Benjamin Marks Shafer began military service WW II service, U.S. Army, 128th Infantry, 32nd Div. He died on 4 April 1945 at Luzon Island, Philippines, at age 19.      Benjamin Myers Shafer was also known as "Ben". He was born on 14 April 1897 at Glasscock Co., TX, WW I draft registration.¹ He was the son of Johann Christian Schaefer and Susannah Myers.¹ Benjamin Myers Shafer married Maude Katherine Carter, daughter of Joseph George Carter Sr. and Lillian Marks. Benjamin Myers Shafer died on 14 December 1979 at Howard Co., TX, at age 82. He was buried in December 1979 at Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Glasscock Co., TX, Findagrave #38893429.

     Bernice May Shafer was born on 12 May 1930 at Vining, Washington Co., KS.¹ She was the daughter of George Joseph Shafer and Grace Rowena Jefferson.¹ Bernice May Shafer married Gerald Earl Scott, son of George Maurice Scott Sr. and Harriet Colett Mudgett, on 2 June 1949 at Stanislaus Co., CA. Bernice May Shafer lived in 1974 at 505 Newport Avenue, Stockton, San Joaquin Co., CA, city directory. She lived in 1983 at Stockton, San Joaquin Co., CA. She died on 26 June 2017 at age 87.

     Bismark Shafer was born on 11 June 1891 at Glasscock Co., TX.¹ He was the son of Johann Christian Schaefer and Susannah Myers.¹ Bismark Shafer married Genevieve Louise Carter, daughter of Joseph George Carter Sr. and Lillian Marks, circa 1930, Genevieve was first married to Augustine G. Alba, with who she had two chidren, Gene (1924) and Joyce Lillian (1926). They were raised by Bismark Shafer and used the Shafer surname. DLB 2020. Bismark Shafer died on 7 February 1968 at Big Spring, Howard Co., TX, at age 76.

     Burton A. Shafer was born on 25 July 1911 at Ohio. He married Hilda Long, daughter of Clay E. Long and Eunice Lott. Burton A. Shafer died on 8 March 1953 at Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH, at age 41. He was buried in March 1953 at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, Guernsey Co., OH, Find A Grave Memorial# 35163455.

     Charles Wesley Shafer was born on 22 May 1873 at Noble Co., OH.¹ He married Rachel Ella Bates on 17 February 1906. Charles Wesley Shafer died on 20 June 1931 at Noble Co., OH, at age 58.

     Charlie Joe Shafer was born on 22 March 1931 at Glasscock Co., TX. He was the son of Benjamin Myers Shafer and Maude Katherine Carter. Charlie Joe Shafer married Barbara Ann Moreland, daughter of Samuel Newton Moreland and Lottie Lois Crass, on 14 February 1951 at Big Spring, Howard Co., TX. Charlie Joe Schafer, 88, of Glasscock County passed away February 2, 2020 after a three-and-a-half-year battle with Dementia.

Before Charlie was stricken, he was a very social person, had many friends and was always happy to have company pop in for a visit.

He was an avid Golfer, loved tending to a beautiful yard, and planting an overflowing garden every year. His yard was referred to as a “Garden of Eden” in the middle of a desert. He always made sure to over plant his vegetable gardens each year so friends and neighbors could enjoy his favorite hobby along with family. He had a true green thumb. He always said he inherited that green thumb from his mother.

He was the grandson of Pioneer Ranchers of Glasscock County, and is the last of the Ben and Maude Carter Schafer family, ranchers in the Glasscock area. Charlie was born at the family ranch March 22, 1931.

Charlie married Barbara Moreland in Big Spring, Texas in 1951. They were married for 62 years.

Charlie and Barbara had three daughters, Cindy, Penny and Rosie. Those three daughters gave them seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Charlie is pre-deceased by his parents, wife, three brothers, 2 sisters, one grandson.

He was born on 25 February 1894 at Glasscock Co., TX.¹ He was the son of Johann Christian Schaefer and Susannah Myers.¹ Christian Shafer Jr. married Birdie Mae Pointer, daughter of Richard Granbury Pointer and Eva Essie Jones. Christian Shafer Jr. lived on 22 April 1930 at Justice Precinct 4, Glasscock Co., TX, stock farmer.² He lived on 2 May 1940 at Garden City, Glasscock Co., TX, stock rancher.³ He died on 31 January 1963 at Big Spring, Howard Co., TX, at age 68.      Clyde Frederick Shafer was born on 15 September 1927 at Glasscock Co., TX. He was the son of Benjamin Myers Shafer and Maude Katherine Carter. Clyde Frederick Shafer died on 7 October 1941 at Big Spring, Howard Co., TX, at age 14. Cause of death: blood poisoning. Graveside services were held Oct. 1 at Lakewood Cemetery for Dale Eldridge Shafer, 82, of Riverbank, who died Sept. 28. Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Kansas, Mr. Shafer had lived in Riverbank for 58 years. He was a self-employed carpenter for 33 years and was a member of the Riverbank Volunteer Fire Department and the Modesto Travel Club. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy.

Also surviving is his brother Harold Shafer of Alaska and his sisters, Lila Henderson of Oakdale and Ruby Ransdell of Oregon.

     Donald H. Shafer was born on 9 March 1929 at Flora, Clay Co., IL.¹ He was the son of Harold Richard Shafer and Mabel A. Gill.¹ Donald H. Shafer died on 26 September 2009 at Mt. Vernon, Jefferson Co., IL, at age 80.

     Donna Darlene Shafer was born on 1 March 1943 at Stanislaus Co., CA. She was the daughter of George Joseph Shafer and Grace Rowena Jefferson. Donna Darlene Shafer lived in 1983 at Fremont, Alameda Co., CA. She died on 11 August 2015 at Bangor, Butte Co., CA, at age 72. She was buried, Findagrave #150646443.

     Doralee Maud Shafer was born on 18 October 1934 at Glasscock Co., TX. She was the daughter of Benjamin Myers Shafer and Maude Katherine Carter. Doralee Maud Shafer married Jessie Cleo Newell, son of Roscoe Taft Newell Sr., on 22 May 1953 at Garden City, Glasscock Co., TX. She was born on October 18, 1934, in Glasscock County and married J. C. Newell on May 22, 1953 in Garden City.

Doralee's grandparents were pioneer settlers of Glasscock County, coming in 1887. She had lived in Glasscock County for all but 9 years of her life. She loved flowers and adopted any stray that came along.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Garden City.

Survivors include her husband, J. C. Newell of Glasscock County; one son, Guy Newell of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Tim Smith of Glasscock County; one brother and sister-in-law, Charlie Joe and Barbara Schafer of Glasscock County; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Maud Schafer; one sister, Pansy Schafer; and three brothers, Ben Schafer, Jr., Clyde Schafer and Leonard Schafer.
