Joseph D. Shields, age 75, of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of Bloomington, Ind., died August 30, 2005 at his residence in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Born Dec. 10, 1929, in Bloomington, he was the son of Ambrose and Sybil (McCullough) Shields.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 26 years of service. He loved to fish in the Gulf of Mexico every day and was very involved with family activities, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved to help his neighbors with their needs. He was a member of the American Legion in Corpus Christi and also the Fleet Reserve Officer Association. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine (Hahn) Shields, of Corpus Christi.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Shields and Russell Shields.

Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.

He was buried in September 2005 at Valhalla Memory Gardens, Bloomington, Monroe Co., IN, Findagrave #143802831.

Paul C. Shields, 67, Paola, died unexpectedly at his home April 10, 2010.

He was born April 11, 1942, in Barton County, Mo., to Ralph and Leila Shields. He grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from Southeast High School in 1960. He attended Kansas City Junior College and the University of Missouri.

He married the love of his life, Susan Keeler, in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 5, 1963. They were blessed with four children. He and his wife moved away from Kansas City to rural Paola 17 years ago, and soon after Paul retired from the Honeywell Corporation with over 25 years of service as a purchasing agent and manager om the Aerospace Aeronautic department.

He enjoyed the outdoors, and he found his spirituality in nature. He enjoyed working with his hands and was very active in his children's sporting events. He was his family's definitive hero.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Susan of the home; daughter Kristin Shields of Shawnee; sons Michael Shields of Overland Park, Andy Shields of Tulsa, Okla., James Shields of Blue Springs, Mo; five grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Shields of Pembroke, Maine, and two sisters, Kristin Rolfe of Olathe, and Lena Wright of Garfield, Ark. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be today from noon to 1 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, Ks. and graveside services will follow at the Osawatomie Cemetery.

He was buried in April 2010 at Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie, Miami Co., KS, Findagrave #51556115.
