Ronald E. Smith, age 83, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
Ronald was born January 16, 1936 in Sterling the son of Harold and Myrtle (Signor) Smith.
He served in the US Army and later married Dianne Curry on February 11, 1961 in Prophetstown. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2005.
He was employed at Lawrence Brothers as a tool and die maker for 25 years retiring in 2002. Ronald was a 30 year member of AA, played in bands for many years and enjoyed woodworking and cars.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Smith and Ken (Peggy) Smith; one sister, Sue Covell; his significant other, Doris Williamson; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents and one step brother, Steve Knaple.
Visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2019 from 2:00 – 3:30 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral service will be Friday at 3:30 PM at the funeral home with Reverend Jeff Coester of The Big Red Church in Sterling officiating. Burial will be at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Mr. Smith was talking to Dr. Ragan when he suddenly toppled over backwards. He fell against a stove and his clothing was burned by the fire. The coroner returned a verdict of death due to natural causes.
Mr. Smith was well known in Hagerstown and for many years had been employed by Dr. Ragan. He made his home with the physician.
He is survived by his wife and the following children, Mrs. Mabel Lenhoff, Baltimore, Mrs. Mary Spielman, this city, Mrs. Catherine Smith, at home; Max, Samuel, Ragan, Rolland and Richard Smith, of Hagerstown; sister, Mrs. George Patterson, Washington, DC; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
