MAX E. SMITH died this morning of complications at his home, 120 South Potomac Street, aged 54. Mr. Smith was a retired cigarmaker, a member of the Odd Fellow and Red Men lodges and also a member of the First Hose Fire Company.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary O. Smith, a daughter, Miss Olive Smith, at home, one son, Max Smith, Jr., Washington; sisters, Mrs. Harry Lehrhoff, Baltimore; Mrs. Richard Spielman and Miss Catherine Smith, Hagerstown; brothers, Samuel R. and Richard Smith, Hagerstown, and C. Ragan Smith, Washington.

Funeral services were held at the Kraiss mortuary home; burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

He was born on 23 June 1902 at Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD.¹ He was the son of Max Edward Smith and Mary Oswald Winter.¹ Max Edward Smith Jr. married Mary Catherine Jones, daughter of George Disert Jones and Mary Ellen Earnshaw. Max Edward Smith Jr. lived on 2 April 1940 at Mt. Lebanon, Allegheny Co., PA, manager, dental laboratory.² He and Mary Catherine Jones were divorced before July 1961; Edward remarried to Loretta Lachapelle in JUL 1961, and was divorced from her in NOV 1968, both in Palm Beach County. Max Edward Smith Jr. died on 6 November 1991 at Palm Beach Co., FL, at age 89.

     Maxine Elizabeth Smith was born on 28 September 1921 at Carroll Co., IL. She was the daughter of Maxwell Dillon Smith and Lola Mae Fulrath. Maxine Elizabeth Smith married Gordon B. Maxine E. Smith

Mount Carroll – Maxine E. Smith, 76, of Mount Carroll died Wednesday March 11, 1998 at Freeport Memorial Hospital. Daughter of Maxwell and Lola (Fulrath) Smith, she was born Wednesday September 28, 1921 in Wacker. She and Gordon B. Smith were married Thursday, May 30, 1946 in Mount Carroll.

She was secretary to the superintendent of schools at Mount Carroll High School for 28 years, and she also worked at Savanna Army Depot and Shimer College. She was a member of Mount Carroll United Methodist Church and Chapter G. A. PEO. She enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge, and water color painting.

Surviving her are her husband; a daughter, Barbara (Ronald) Brierton of Rockford; a granddaughter, Raegan Brierton of Peoria; her father of Mount Carroll; a sister, Betty (Gene) Teeter of Mount Carroll; and a brother, Albert (Gladys) Smith of Cambridge. Her mother died previously.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll with the Rev. Len Huff officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Mount Carroll.

Milan Lewis Smith lived in October 1850 at Paint Twp., Fayette Co., OH.¹ He died on 30 December 1913 at Fayette Co., OH, at age 101.

     Milan Orro Smith was born on 21 June 1879 at Champaign Co., IL.¹ He was the son of William Lewis Smith and Sarah Catherine Fancher.¹

     Minnie Belle Smith was born circa 1889 at California.¹ She married John Winfield Hockett in 1907 at Tulare Co., CA. Minnie Belle Smith died in 1972. She was buried in 1972 at North Kern Cemetery, Delano, Kern Co., CA, Findagrave #67216332.

     Minnie M. Smith was also known as Minnie Springer. She was born in March 1870 at Illinois. She married Otto Charles Luther, son of Joh. Ferdinand Luther and Maria Huppert, on 30 August 1888 at Hancock Co., IL. Minnie M. Smith died before 1938 at Ironwood, Gogebic Co., MI.

     Miranda Elizabeth Olivia Smith was born on 27 February 1864. She married Joseph Barnes Armstrong, son of Abel Armstrong and Emily Creamer, circa 1888 at Fayette Co. (probably), OH. Miranda Elizabeth Olivia Smith died on 14 November 1937 at age 73.

Nancy Irwin Smith was born on 10 October 1834 at Preston Co., VA.¹ She married Iret Rhinehart, son of Joseph Rhinehart and Rachel Long, Eleven children born, five living as of 1900 census.² Nancy Irwin Smith lived in July 1860 at Noble Twp., Noble Co., OH, Husband Iret was not listed with her and the children in 1860, and she appeared to have been living in her parents (or other Smith relatives) house.¹ She died on 5 March 1914 at Spring Hill, Johnson Co., KS, at age 79.
