     Frances Joann Wendell was born on 15 February 1930 at Sangamon Co., IL.1 She was the daughter of James Francis Wendell and Cora B. Plush.1 Frances Joann Wendell died on 7 May 2007 at Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL, at age 77 SPRINGFIELD - Joann Denton, 77, a lifelong resident of the Springfield area, died at 4:20 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2007, at her home.

She was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Springfield, the daughter of James and Cora Plush Wendell. She married Darrell Denton on Nov. 24, 1964. Her parents; half brother, Bert Hedrick; and two brothers, Robert and Donald Wendell, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Denton worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in the accounting department. She then worked at St. Nicholas Hotel in the Glade Cafe as a waitress and then at Sangamo Electric Co. in the payroll department.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1948. She was a member of St. Agnes Church, the choir and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and spoiling her grandkids.

Surviving are her husband, Darrell Denton of Springfield; four sons, James J. Bennett of Rimrock, Ariz., Jeffery A. Bennett of Springfield, Michael K. (Tina) Bennett of Alton and Mark W. (Leigh Ann) Bennett of Springfield; a granddaughter; six grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Dorothy Engel of LaHabra, Calif., and Wanda (John) Weber of Peoria; brother, Richard (Jean) Wendell of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007, at St. Agnes Church, with the Rev. Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Agnes Church Choir.

Note: From the Brownsville Herald, Brownsville, TX October 23, 1909:

"Frank's sister Hattie only had three weeks to live when they went to Donna, TX with Jerome Goodheart. The move took place five years after the death of their father Harrison in 1905."

The paper described funeral services and the purchase of some land just three or four miles west of Brownsville, along with the description of a setup of tents for housing. No reason given for the move to Texas.

Franklin H. Wendell lived in 1910 at Justice Precinct 2, Hidalgo Co., TX. He died on 4 June 1931 at Akron or Cuyahoga Falls, Summit Co., OH, at age 65 in the household of Julius Johannes (JJ) Buchholzer and Kathleen Shaw Buchholzer.

Kathleen was the daughter of David B Shaw and Jessie Wendell Shaw.

Freeda Oceanus Wendell died on 1 October 1972 at Massillon, Stark Co., OH, at age 75. She was buried in October 1972 at Sunset Hills Burial Park, Canton, Stark Co., OH.
Note:

had an out-of-wedlock baby boy who was given to the father's family to be raised, and was given their surname, prior to her marriage to Paul Braucher. According to Olive Wendell Boyd, daughter of Frieda's brother Earl Wendell, both Frieda and her mother Rosa Wendell were in labor at the same time in different rooms in the house. This would indicate that Frieda's first son was born about 25 JUN 1917, same as her sister Sarah. According to Olive, Sarah Wendell knew the name of this same-age nephew and even worked with him at the Hoover factory in North Canton for some time.

He died on 10 March 1930 at Waynesburg, Greene Co., PA, at age 70 Obituary (findagrave.com):

George W. Wendell, aged 70 years, of Richhill township, died Monday, March 10, in the Waynesburg hospital, following a three hours' illness from heart trouble. Mr. Wendell was here attending court and was taken ill on the street and removed to the hospital. Mr. Wendell was a son of Silas and Margaret Wendell and was born August 30, 1859, in Aleppo township. He had spent his entire life in western Greene county, where he was well known. He was serving as constable of Richhill township. His wife, Mrs. Jennie Murdy Wendell, died three years ago. Four children survive: Mrs Laura Cooper, of Wind Ridge; James Wendell, of Apollo; Ancel Wendell, of Butler, Pa; and W. E. Wendell, of Cameron, W. Va. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Nancy Tharp, of Williamsfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Maria Armstrong, of Washington, Pa.
