Ritter. John Wendell Snapp died on 1 February 1964 at Johnson City, Washington Co., TN, at age 70. He was buried in February 1964 at Monte Vista Memorial Park, Johnson City, Washington Co., TN, Find A Grave Memorial# 111712320.

     John Wesley Snapp was born in 1866 at Jefferson Co., KS.¹ He was the son of Madison Charles Snapp and Martha Ann Francis.¹ John Wesley Snapp married May Frances Boley circa 1898. John Wesley Snapp lived on 13 June 1900 at Williamsport Twp., Shawnee Co., KS, farming.² He died in 1911. He was buried in 1911 at Ozawkie Cemetery, Ozawkie, Jefferson Co., KS, Findagrave #101676123.

Joseph Snapp was christened on 29 August 1771 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg, Shenandoah Co., VA; page 15 of St. Paul's church records. Sponsors: Christophel and Catharina Wendel. He married Margaret Cravens, daughter of John Cravens and Margaret Hiett, on 1 October 1793 at Rockingham Co., VA. Joseph Snapp died on 12 December 1847 at Hampshire Co., VA (now WV), at age 76. He was buried in December 1847 at Salem Church Cemetery, Slanesville, Hampshire Co., WV, Findagrave #83946365.

     Joseph Snapp was born circa 1830. He married Maryann E. Brumback, daughter of Joseph Brumback and Christina Huffman.

     Note: Joseph Snapp lived on a portion of the original Snapp homestead in western Frederick County. His wife, Mary Magdalena, was a daughter of Henry Clowser, who was killed in an Indian attack in 1764. Clowser's wife and his three daughters, ages 5, 7, & 10 were taken captive and held for about six months. Samuel Kercheval, an early area historian, mentions that the mother and daughters returned unharmed and that the daughters grew up, married and had families of their own. At the time he wrote his history in 1832 all three were widows, living in his neighborhood and he named them as Mrs. Schultz, Mrs. Snapp and Mrs. Frye (Samuel Kercheval, "A History of the Valley of Virginia", 1925 pp 98-99.) Joseph Snapp was born on 30 January 1761 at Frederick Co., VA. He was the son of John Snapp and Catherine (?) Joseph Snapp married Mary Magdalena Clowser, daughter of Henry Clowser, circa 1782. Joseph Snapp died on 8 August 1825 at Frederick Co., VA, at age 64.

Joseph Franklin Snapp and Ottie Fae Waddell were divorced. Joseph Franklin Snapp died on 5 April 1967 at Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL, at age 84. Joseph Lewis Snapp married Gertrude Lewis, daughter of Wilson Kohen Lewis and Sarah Lucinda Foster, circa 1895, One child born, none living as of the 1900 census.¹ Rev. Joseph Lewis Snapp lived on 20 June 1900 at Oliver Twp., Taney Co., MO, Farmer.¹ He married Artie Belle Thompson circa 1903.² Rev.      Josephine Bertha Snapp was born on 24 August 1903 at Apache, Caddo Co., OK.¹ She was the daughter of James R. Snapp and Ethel Collins.¹ Josephine Bertha Snapp married Robert Jennings Gates circa 1922. Josephine Bertha Snapp died on 5 June 1985 at Tucumcari, Quay Co., NM, at age 81. She was buried in June 1985 at San Jon Cemetery, San Jon, Quay Co., NM, Find A Grave Memorial# 37479232.

     Josie E. Snapp was born on 25 August 1899. She was the daughter of Samuel Leonard Snapp and Lilley C. Pickett. Josie E. Snapp died on 14 September 1899.

     L. Matthew Snapp was born in 1901 at Taney Co., MO. He was the son of Samuel Leonard Snapp and Lilley C. Pickett. L. Matthew Snapp married Ethel (?). L. Matthew Snapp died in 1961. He was buried in 1961 at Ozarks Memorial Park, Branson, Taney Co., MO, Find A Grave Memorial# 33839035.

     Note: The Goodspeed Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Eastern Arkansas, published by the Goodspeed Publishing Company of Chicago, Nashville & St. Louis, in 1890 has the following on Page 314:

"L.D. Snapp is one of the thoroughly reliable upright business men of Woodruff County (Arkansas) and is said to be one of the largest and most successful real estate owners in the County, he owning 3000 acres with 1900 under cultivation. On this property are 35 tenement houses all occupied, and his own private residence, a very handsome structure, also a large cotton-gin which has a capacity of 25 bales a day. He has done more than any other man in developing the County, and it is, through his influence that a Post Office has been established bearing his name and at this place he has a general mercantile establishment which nets him a fair annual income. He is a man of exceptionally fine character and noted for his exceeding liberality, always being ready to assist the poor and distressed. His birth occurred in Taney County, Missouri, April 22, 1842, and here he received the greater part of his education and rearing. He abandoned farm work at the outbreak of the Rebellion to take up the weapons of war in defense of his country and in 1861 enlisted in Company E, Third Missouri Cavalry, serving until June 27, 1865. He was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant of the Company, meriting it by his bravery, and was in all the engagements of the Trans-Mississippi Department. Two brothers fought within the Army and one was killed at the battle of Glasgow. After the Proclamation of Peace, Mr. Snapp returned to Missouri and in the fall of 1866 came to Woodruff County, Arkansas, where he has since made his home. He was married on March 4, 1869 to Miss Mary H. Luckinbill, by whom he has had a family of ten children, five now living, James C. Harry, Walter, Myrtle and Pearl. The parents of our subject, Harrison G. and Emily D. (Parry) Snapp were born in East Tennessee* and in 1838 moved to Missouri where they died. Of a large family of children born to them, only four are now living.

Other sources indicate Harrison G. Snapp was born in Rockingham County, Virginia and Emily (Parry) Snapp was born in Missouri.
