Robert Leonard Snapp entered into rest October 14, 2013 in Sacramento at the age of 90. Born June 25, 1923 a native of Branson, Missouri.
He is survived by his daughter Karen (Snapp) Snyder, sister Vestle (Snapp) Buck and son-in-law Kevin Snyder. Robert is also survived by his grandson Kalen Robert Snyder, granddaughter Kristin (Snyder) Garland and her husband Matthew and a great-grandson Grant Garland. He was preceded in death by Juanita (Collier) Snapp, Pearl (Whorton/Prader/Giddeon) Snapp and his brother Rex Irvin Snapp.
Robert served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a Sacramento resident for over 70 years and worked for Levy and Zentner Wholesale Produce.
A funeral service will be held at Fremont Presbyterian Church 5770 Carlson Ave., Sacramento, Friday, October 18, 2013 at 11:00am. A private burial will be held at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.

Samuel Ezekiel Snapp Sr. married Dianna Hannah Pemberton, daughter of John Pemberton and Elizabeth Delaney, in 1804 at Washington Co., TN. It was a cool spring day - May 9, 1888- ninety years ago. Samuel H. Snapp , my great grandfather, put on his coat, saddled his horse and rode from his home near the Oak Grove School into Kirbyville to get supplies for his children. He expected to visit Dr. Elisha Turner Anderson and wife Addie, his sister, before returning home. The Andersons did not have children of their own. They had reared several nieces who had become orphans and they were very fond of Samuel’s children. He depended on his sister for aid for he had been left with three children when his first wife, Sarah Sims, had died from measles in June of 1884. After a few months Samuel had married Susan Haggard and she too had died a few days after the birth of twins in November of 1885.

Samuel’s thoughts on this day may have been of his five little children at home being cared for by the oldest, Nannie, who was nine years old or he may have been thinking of the troubled times in Taney County; the death of Andy Cogburn which he had witnessed just two months before.

Samuel had gone to the Oak Grove School, a short distance from his home, to a church revival. As he sat inside the church he heard a disturbance of the horses tied outside. Being concerned for his horse; he stepped outside and became the only eye witness to the shooting of Andy Cogburn by Capt. Kinney, the Bald Knobb leader. Capt. Kinney had arrived in Taney County in 1883, three years before. Andy Cogburn was a boy nineteen years of age and a warrant had been issued for his arrest on a charge of disturbing the peace. Cogburn was not "a pal" of Samuel’s as has been stated in other stories. They did not go to the church together. Sam was much older than the boy. The families of both were just neighbors and good friends. An inquest had been held after the death of Cogburn. Samuel Snapp the only eye witness had not appeared.

Violence was no stranger to Samuel for he had lived through the violence of the Civil War. He had seen his boyhood home burned, their cattle destroyed. His mother had died when he was only three. His father died when he was nine. He had tried to stay clear of both Bald Knobb and Anti-Bald Knobb associations for he had five children to rear without a mother and they were all under nine years of age.

Two months had passed since that night he had opened the door of the Oak Grove school and witnessed the shooting. Things were quiet again in Taney County and Samuel had no fear and was unarmed this day as he rode his horse up to Kintrea’s Store at Kirbyville, dismounted, stepped upon the porch and became the victim of an assassin’s bullet.

Three shots were fired into Sam’s body making certain he would not live. His body was taken from Kirbyville to Forsyth in a wagon and left overnight at his brother’s home across the road from the Snapp Cemetery. This farm was settled by Harrison G. Snapp , Sam’s father, in 1839 when he brought his wife and two little daughters from Green Co.,Tennessee to Taney County. One hundred years later it became known as the Chaney farm.

Samuel Snapp was buried beside his wife, Sarah Sims Snapp , just west of the little Haworth girl’s grave. Mrs. Maggie Stallcup pointed out the location of the site in 1966. She told of the fear in the children and that every man at the cemetery was armed. She told how the minister asked people to step forward and take Sam’s children and they were divided up there at the cemetery. Judge Haworth built a picket fence around the grave and also built one for his little daughter’s grave. The fence stood for many years. Today all evidence of the exact spot of the grave is gone and only Mrs. Stallcup knew exactly where it was for she attended the funeral that day and it was her father, Judge Haworth, who built the fence.

There were many who had the courage to stand against the vigilante concept of law enforcement; they were not the lawless, yet some paid for their beliefs with their lives. Descendants are planning to mark the grave of Samuel H. Snapp who died ninety-one years ago and became part of the controversial Bald Knobb history in Taney County.

Samuel Harrison Snapp died on 9 May 1888 at Forsyth, Taney Co., MO, at age 33. He was buried in May 1888 at Snapp Cemetery, Forsyth, Taney Co., MO.

     Samuel Leonard Snapp was born in February 1875 at Taney Co. (probably), MO.¹ He was the son of Robert Grant Snapp and Lydia Ann Rider. Samuel Leonard Snapp married Lilley C. Pickett, daughter of David Pickett and Eliza Catherine Spoon, circa 1898.¹ Samuel Leonard Snapp was buried in 1942 at Snapp Cemetery, Forsyth, Taney Co., MO, Find A Grave Memorial# 16917647. He died in 1942 at Taney Co., MO.

     Samuel Roach Snapp married Sarah Ann Hulse. Samuel Roach Snapp was born on 23 March 1852 at Bushnell, McDonough Co., IL. He was the son of John Henry Snapp and Nancy Herring. Samuel Roach Snapp died on 8 February 1914 at Sullivan Co., MO, at age 61. He was buried in February 1914 at Half Rock Cemetery, Mercer Co., MO, Findagrave #10884895.

     Dr. Samuel T. Snapp was born on 15 October 1827 at Washington Co., TN.¹ He was the son of Abraham Snapp Jr. and Mary Patton.¹ Occupation: Physician in 1860 at Jefferson Co., TN.² Dr. Samuel T. Snapp lived in July 1860 at Jefferson Co., TN.² He married Henrietta Espran Proffitt, daughter of John Bright Proffitt and Rachel Bryan, on 1 November 1860 at Hawkins Co., TN.³ Dr. Samuel T. Snapp died before 31 May 1875 at Russellville, Jefferson Co., TN, Was referred to as the "late Dr. Samuel Snapp" in his father's obituary.

     Sarah Snapp was born circa 1832 at Virginia. She was the daughter of John Cravens Snapp and Hannah (?)

     Sarah Snapp was also known as "Sallie". She died at Cherokee Co., AL. She was born circa 1790 at Shenandoah Co., VA. She was the daughter of Abraham Snapp and Maria Magdalena Fogelsong. Sarah Snapp married John McGee on 2 February 1817 at Washington Co., TN.

     Sarah Snapp was born circa 1846 at Dallas Co., MO.¹ She was the daughter of Newton S. Snapp and Mary Ann Payne.¹

     Sarah Alice Snapp was born on 23 March 1860 at Carrollton Twp., Carroll Co., AR.¹ She was the daughter of David John Snapp and Mary Ann (?)¹ Sarah Alice Snapp married David Henry Burnett. Kershaw Funeral Today
Graveside rites will be conducted in Evergreen cemetery this afternoon for Sarah Isabell Kershaw, 95.

Mrs. Kershaw passed away Monday in a Fair Oaks rest home. She was born in Missouri on September 27, 1862 and had resided in Lompoc for several years at 329 South K street.

Mrs. Kershaw is survived by two granddaughters, Mrs. W. M. Anderson and Mrs. Frank Twyford, both of Lompoc.

Seventh Day Adventist services will be held and the Starbuck Mortuary will be in charge of arrangements.

     Sharon Lee Snapp was born on 20 August 1947 at Phoenix, Maricopa Co., AZ. She was the daughter of Preston Arthur Snapp and Pauline Craig. Sharon Lee Snapp died on 9 April 2006 at Phoenix, Maricopa Co., AZ, at age 58.

     Sherrie Elaine Snapp was born on 5 November 1948 at Branson, Taney Co., MO. She was the daughter of Rex Irven Snapp. Sherrie Elaine Snapp married Ronald Dozier in 1967. Sherrie Elaine Snapp died on 2 March 2014 at Fayetteville, Washington Co., AR, at age 65 Biography (findagrave.com):

Sherrie died at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences after a courageous battle with cancer that began in 1998. She graduated from Branson High School and moved to Arkansas to attend college. Sherrie married Ronald Dozier in 1967 and started her family. After she was widowed she became active in politics in the 1970's and helped to advocate for the passage of legislation that reformed and modernized survivor's benefits for police officers and firemen. She became active in Friendship International in the 1970's a program ministering to international residents living in central Arkansas. Sherrie obtained her CDL in order to transport people from the area to the ministry in Little Rock, transporting as many as 35 people each Thursday.
She worked with Friendship International until her illness prevented her from continuing. Sherrie was a member of Lanoke Baptist Church, Women's Mission Union, Kiwanis Club of Cabot, as well as the chairman of the Arkansas Women's Commission.

She was buried in March 2014 at Ozarks Memorial Park, Branson, Taney Co., MO, Find A Grave Memorial# 125911387.

Falls. Stephen Decauter Snapp married Melinda Mae Caperton on 16 April 1871 at Polk Co., MO. Stephen Decauter Snapp died after 1880 at Missouri.

     Susan Snapp was born in October 1859 at Polk Co., MO.¹ She was the daughter of William A. Snapp and Cordelia Annabelle Reneau.¹ Susan Snapp died in 1868.

     Susanna Snapp was born on 9 November 1765. She was the daughter of Lorentz Schnepp and Margaretha Stephan. Susanna Snapp married John Harr on 13 May 1782 at Shenandoah Co., VA, Ceremony by Rev. Simon Harr.
