     Irma M. Berry was born on 13 June 1916 at Hardin Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Willis Orland Berry and Mabel C. Marmon. Irma M. Berry married Hayes Leroy Fout, son of Lanson Starley Fout and Alva Mae Brown. Irma M. Berry lived on 25 April 1940 at Hale Twp., Hardin Co., OH.² She died on 9 April 2009 at age 92 Dates per SSDI, last residence La Rue, Marion Co., Ohio.

     Isaac Berry was also known as "Ike". He was born in July 1894 at Story Co., IA.¹ He was the son of Isaac M. Berry and Ellen Jane Smith.¹ Isaac Berry married Bessie Mitchell, daughter of George R. Mitchell and Jenny Belle Guge, on 10 June 1929 at Nevada, Story Co., IA. Occupation: Hiring date, Chicago and North Western Railroad, maintenance gang laborer on 5 May 1955. Isaac Berry died on 7 May 1965 at Cherokee, Cherokee Co., IA, at age 70

Isaac Berry dead at 73

Isaac Berry, 73, Nevada, died about 1:05 a.m. Friday at a Cherokee hospital.

A lifelong resident of Story County, he was born near Nevada June 25, 1892, the son of Isaac and Ellen Berry.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie; four sons, Robert, Marvin, Ray and Larry, all of Nevada; two daughters, Mrs. Marjory Ersland and Mrs. Gordon Evans, Nevada; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Lyons and Laura Berry, both of Nevada and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services wil be held a 11 a.m. Saturday from Ryan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Victor Hackbarth of the Nevada Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Nevada cemetery.

He was buried in May 1965 at Nevada Municipal Cemetery, Nevada, Story Co., IA, Findagrave #131710935.

     Isaac M. Berry was also known as "Ike". He was born circa 1839 at Tazewell Co., IL, His Findagrave.com memorial shows 5 FEB 1835, however that is clearly too early. On the 1840 census of Tazewell County, Illinois, in the family of James Berry there was one son over the age of 10, two sons between 5 and 9, and one son (Isaac) under the age of 5. On the 1850 census, he was listed as age 11. If his birthday was in fact 5 FEB, then the year was most likely 1839. DLB 2020.¹ He was the son of James Berry and Rachel Ann Larimore. Isaac M. Berry married Elmyra Stockton on 22 November 1857 at Tazewell Co., IL. Isaac M. Berry married Ellen Jane Smith, daughter of Reuben Smith and Sarah Ann Gross, on 20 July 1891 at Polo, Story Co., IA, The 1900 census incorrectly shows that she had given birth to five children as of that date. Seven children can be identified from the 1880 and 1900 censuses, and six are listed on the 1900 census, five living with their mother and Margaret Schandelmeier living with the Gearhart family. Her daughter Mary Brier, listed on the 1880 census, apparently did not survive to 1900.²


Note: A marriage record in Mason County, Illinois (adjacent to Tazewell County) documents the marriage of Isaac Berry to Ellen Shirley on 29 JUN 1865. This was probably the widowed Ike Berry of Tazewell County. No evidence of this Ellen (Shirley) Berry has been found on either the 1860 or 1870 census (Ike was in the penitentiary in 1870).

Following the capture and indictment of the "Berry Gang" in late July 1869, Ike was given a life sentence, but served 17 years in prison and was released 15 June 1887. Apparently seeking to resettle close to his daughter Rachel and her family, he went to Butler County, Nebraska, and subsequently was in Story County, Iowa by 1891 when he married Ellen J. (Smith) Schandelmeier. Isaac M. Berry lived on 5 January 1920 at Chestnut Street, Nevada, Story Co., IA.³ He died on 2 November 1927 at Nevada, Story Co., IA,

ISAAC BERRY, NEARLY 93 YEARS OF AGE, DIED HERE ON WEDNESDAY

Isaac Berry, 92, for over a third of a century a resident of Story county, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of his son Isaac Berry, Jr., 536 Ninth street, and the funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 from the Morfoot Funeral home, after which the body was interred in the Nevada cemetery. Mr. Berry, suffering from senility as well as from the effects of other complications, had been failing for some time. His age was 92 years, 8 months and 27 days.

Mr. Berry was born at Foltner, Illinois, and lived there for many years. He came out to Iowa about 33 years ago and for some time was located on a farm near Colo, after which the family moved to Nevada and located in a home corner Fourth and Avenue F, where they lived for many years, or until the home was broken up.

A few years ago his wife, Ellen Berry, became mentally unbalanced and was sent away for treatment. She is now in the Story county infirmary.

He leaves besides his wife, two sons and two daughters. The sons Fred and Isaac Jr., of this city, and the daughters are Mrs. Rachel Elzy who lives in Nebraska, and Mrs. Susie Stillman of near Des Moines.

Mr. Berry was an industrious, honest man, faithful to all trusts and had many friends among the people of the city for whom he had worked and gained an acquaintance. Truck gardening, hunting and trapping took up most of his time and during the days that he was physically fit, through that means he managed to care for his family.

Members of the family will receive the sympathy of the community in their hour of bereavement.

The adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Heintz, Nevada, Berry was born March 17, 1954 in Des Moines.

J. G. Berry, who has been ill for some time, succumbed to the enemy of mortality on Wednesday at 8 o'clock P.M. aged 85 years. Mr. Berry was an old resident of the county well and favorably known to a host of mourning friends. He is survived by a wife and three grown children. Interment will take place today at 10 o'clock, under the directions of the Masonic Fraternity.

Mr. Berry, of whose death we made mention last week, was buried Tursday (sic) morning, funeral services being conducted at the home by Rev. McConnell; assisted by Rev. J. A. Bradshaw, after which the Masons took charge of the remains and services were held under the ritual of the order. Mr. Berry was 81 (sic) years old the day before he died. He was a native of Ohio, but came to this place from Missouri.

He enjoyed gardening, refurbishing furniture, and cleaning. Larry Eugene Berry, age 66, passed away on Wednesday; December 2, 2009 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife, Marcia Berry of Kelley; 2 daughters, Sherry (Roger) Sinclair of Slater and Julie Mann of Kelley; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Marvin (Ruth) Berry of Monroe and Raymond Berry of Nevada; and a sister, Doris (Gordon) Eivins of Panora.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Daniel E. Berry on November 27, 2005, a daughter, Delisa Berry, a sister, Margaret Rice, and a brother, Bob Berry on March 16, 2004. May they rest in peace.

Visitation will be from: 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday; December 6, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 2:00 p.m. on Monday; December 7, 2009 also at the funeral home. Berry and Ellen Jane Smith.¹ Laura Berry died on 21 November 1965 at Nevada, Story Co., IA, at age 70. She was buried in November 1965 at Nevada Municipal Cemetery, Nevada, Story Co., IA, Findagrave #123822994.
Note: Laura was institutionalized at an early age with apparent mental retardation. She is listed in the censuses as not able to read nor write. Beginning sometime between 1915 when she was listed in the Iowa state census at Nevada, and January 1920 when she was first listed at the Iowa State Institution for Feeble Minded Children at Glenwood in Mills County, she appears to have lived continuously in that institution.      Lawrence Berry was born in March 1873 at Tazewell Co., IL, 1900 age and birth year show 1874, but 1880 census shows age 7 and "at school", which is more consistent with 1873 birth year.^2,1 He was the son of Simeon Berry and Amanda E. McKean.¹
