     Charles Hempstead Stahl was born on 10 January 1865 at Galena, Jo Daviess Co., IL.¹ He married Jessie E. Troxell on 24 January 1893 at Chicago, Cook Co., IL. Charles Hempstead Stahl died on 21 July 1938 at La Grange, Cook Co., IL, at age 73. He was buried in July 1938 at Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, Jo Daviess Co., IL, Find A Grave Memorial# 146530499.

     Clarence Edward Stahl was born on 10 March 1901 at Taylor Twp., Howard Co., IN.¹ He was the son of John George Stahl and Mary Catherine Ricke.¹ Clarence Edward Stahl married Ethel D. Nelson, daughter of Peter August Nelson and Ethel J. Kitzmiller, circa 1924. Clarence E. Stahl

Clarence E. Stahl, 51, a former resident of Kokomo, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony's Hospital in Chicago where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He had undergone major surgery in April of this year.

Born March 10, 1901 in Taylor Township, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Stahl. he was a member of the Catholic Church, and while in Kokomo belonged to the Knights of Columbus.

In Chicago, where he made his home, he was a member of the fire department for 25 years. At the time of the LaSalle Hotel Fire in 1946, he helped fight the blaze and was injured. He retired from the department in 1949 and at the time of his death was connected with the A. B. Dick Company. In his youth, he served a year with the United States Army.

He married Miss Ethel Nelson in 1924, and she survives with three of the four children born to the marriage. Surviving children are Mrs. Marcella Snyder, Mrs. Lucille Phelps and Mrs. Dorothy Rizzo, all of Chicago.

He also leaves his mother, whose home address is 702 Vail Ave; five grandchildren; six brothers, Arthur J; and Carl T. of Kokomo; Leonard H., Raymond W. of Tucson, Ariz; William J. of Chicago; and Barnard T. of Rushville; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Rottermund of Chicago; and Mrs. Lucille Koors, northeast of Marion. A brother, Herman, died in infancy.

Funeral arrangements are still incomplete, but services and burial will be held in Chicago.

     Florence Stahl was born on 3 June 1903 at Cook Co., IL.¹ She was the daughter of Charles Hempstead Stahl and Jessie E. Troxell.² Florence Stahl married Frederick Emil Nagel Jr., son of Frederick Emil Nagel and Frances M. McCormick, in 1926.¹ Florence Stahl died on 8 June 1984 at Dade Co., FL, at age 81.

     John George Stahl was born on 24 March 1867 at Indiana.¹ He married Mary Catherine Ricke in 1900.¹ John George Stahl died in 1947. He was buried in 1947 at Crown Point Cemetery, Kokomo, Howard Co., IN, Findagrave #45520777.

PHELPS-STAHL

On Monday, August 27, St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Chicago, was the scene of a lovely wedding, when Miss Lucille Ann Stahl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Stahl of Chicago was united in marriage to Glenn R. Phelps, Sp(V) 2-c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Phelps of Watsonville, Calif. The ceremony was performed by Rev. E. C. Sordyl.

The bride's attendant, Miss Elaine Westphal, wore pink taffeta and net, silver slippers and a band of pink roses in her hair. Bernard C. Stahl, uncle of the bride, served as best man.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore the traditional wedding gown and veil. The wedding dress was worn by the bride's aunt, Mrs. Herman (Stahl) Koors at her wedding.

A reception, attended by relatives and friends, was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lick. Out-of-town relatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. John G. Stahl, grandparents of the bride, and Bernard Stahl of Kokomo, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman T. Koors and daughters of Tipton. The bridegroom served two years overseas, stationed at Honolulu naval airbase in Hawaii.

It was a western vacation for Ralph and Marcella Snyder, 205 Holly Lane, and son, Ed, this year. Their ultimate goal was Phoenix, where they headquarted with Marcella's cousin and family, the Ray Stahls. Other relatives, the Frank Kondolias in Tucson, also welcomed the Snyders for a visit. Among their sightseeing trips, the Grand Canyon highlighted their "take-home pictures." Ralph and Marcella wound up their trip with a weekend in Kokomo, to participate in a family reunion, to be with relatives they had not seen for eight years.

     Philip Russell Stahl was born on 7 April 1912 at Walton, Lancaster Co., NE. He was the son of Christian Stahl and Winifred Mutz. Philip Russell Stahl married Ila Loraine Faulhaber, daughter of Albert William Faulhaber and Emma Marie Schultz, on 11 December 1937. Philip Russell Stahl died on 25 November 1982 at Lincoln, Lancaster Co., NE, at age 70.

     Rev. Andrew Stahley was born in November 1821 at York Co., PA.¹ He married Charlotte Vogt circa 1842.² Occupation: Minister in 1870 at Forreston Twp., Ogle Co., IL.² Rev. Andrew Stahley married Ceres Oakes on 22 June 1875 at Stephenson Co., IL. Rev. Andrew Stahley died on 5 October 1911 at Forreston, Ogle Co., IL, at age 89.

     Delilah A. Stahley was born on 23 September 1843 at York Co., PA.¹ She was the daughter of Rev. Andrew Stahley and Charlotte Vogt.^1,2 Delilah A. Stahley married Isaac J. Vogelgesang, son of Isaac Vogelgesang and Maria Apollonia Triem, on 10 December 1867 at Stephenson Co., IL, Isaac and Delilah spent their 1867 honeymoon at his uncle Lewis Triem's home at Plainfield.

Elta was their only child; however, they adopted his niece Alice Hauptfuehrer and raised her.¹

     Anna Barbara Stahlin was born before 1732 at Germany.¹ She married Johannes Scheurer, son of Johann Michael Scheurer and Agnes Judith Schick, circa 1761 at Sersheim (probably), Württemberg, Germany.¹ Anna Barbara Stahlin died in 1795 at Lebanon Co., PA.¹

     Sarah Elnora Stahlnecker was born on 2 October 1869 at Alabama.¹ She married Jeremiah Marcellus Fain circa 1886.¹ Sarah Elnora Stahlnecker died on 11 July 1931 at Maricopa Co., AZ, at age 61. She was buried in July 1931 at Glendale Memorial Park, Glendale, Maricopa Co., AZ, Findagrave #8941769.

     Donlyn K. Stahly was born on 22 September 1945 at Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN. She died on 2 September 1998 at Columbia City, Whitley Co., IN, at age 52.

     Edward Staib was born circa 1895 at Seneca Co. (probably), OH. He married Blanche (?).

     Francis Staib was born in 1919. He was the son of Edward Staib and Blanche (?) Francis Staib married Helen Rae Burgderfer, daughter of Miley John Burgderfer and Rae W. Weininger, on 14 June 1945.

     Catherine Everett Staihar was also known as "Kathryn". She was born on 21 November 1910 at Belfield, Stark Co., ND; daughter of Nicholas and Anna (?) Staihar. She married Harry Allen Slack Sr., son of Henry D. Slack and Mary Helena Webb, in 1942. Catherine Everett Staihar died on 13 April 2001 at Bandon, Coos Co., OR, at age 90

CATHERINE (STAIHAR) SLACK

Graveside services for Catherine (Staihar) Slack, 90, of Bandon, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at the Masonic Cemetery in Coquille. The Rev. Edgar Shippey of St. James Episcopal Church will officiate.

She was born Nov. 21, 1910, to Nicholas and Anna Staihar. She died April 13, 2001, in Bandon.

Catherine's parents immigrated to the United States from the Ukraine, and she was proud of her Ukranian heritage. When she was 15 years old, she moved to Oregon to live with cousins in Crow. She lived and worked in Eugene for many years before marrying Harry A. Slack, Sr., in 1942, and moving to Coquille. The last job she held in Eugene was as a hostess at the Eugene Hotel. Happy memories of this job filled many hours of conversation during her later years.

During the many decades that Catherine lived in Coquille, she dedicated herself to service, most notably to the St. James Episcopal Church Alter Guild, the Coquille Women's Club and Daughters of the Nile. During World War II, Catherine volunteered for the Red Cross. Due to failing health, she has spent the last few years in adult foster care in Bandon.

She is survived by her stepson and daughter-in-law, Harry Jr. and JoAnne Slack of Coquille; stepdaughter, Judith Wright of Alpine, Calif; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Olga Tofte of Eugene; brother, John Staihar of North Dakota; nephew Nick Staihar of Moscow, Idaho; nieces Janet (Staihar) Barnes of Bethesda, Md., and Marie (Staihar) Bruce of Washington, D.C; and devoted caregivers, Pat and Neil Ulry of Bandon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Slack, Sr., in 1988; and brother, Mike Staihar, in 1995.

The family suggests memorial contributions to St. James Episcopal Church, 210 E. Third St., Coquille, Ore. 97423.

     Ella Mae Stainer was born on 27 April 1919. She was the daughter of George Washington Stainer and Daisy Dell Tipton. Ella Mae Stainer married Paul Fenton on 4 October 1935. Ella Mae Stainer died on 31 March 1994 at Washington Court House, Fayette Co., OH, at age 74.

     Geneva Esther Stainer was born on 11 November 1913. She was the daughter of George Washington Stainer and Daisy Dell Tipton. Geneva Esther Stainer died in January 1985 at Coshocton, Coshocton Co., OH, at age 71.

     George Washington Stainer was born on 26 July 1880 at Muhlenberg Twp., Pickaway Co., OH. He married Daisy Dell Tipton, daughter of Abel Seymour Tipton and Almeda Green, on 9 August 1911. George Washington Stainer died on 17 July 1945 at age 64.

     Gilbert Willard Stainer was born on 24 April 1908 at Matville, Pickaway Co., OH. He was the son of William Edward Stainer and Mary Elizabeth Tipton. Gilbert Willard Stainer died on 28 July 1957 at age 49.

     Harold Lee Stainer was born on 16 May 1921. He was the son of William Edward Stainer and Mary Elizabeth Tipton. Harold Lee Stainer married Mildred Diamond on 31 March 1941. Harold Lee Stainer and Mildred Diamond were divorced before April 1945. Harold Lee Stainer married Florence Eleanor Sweet on 8 April 1945. Harold Lee Stainer died circa 1989.

     Harry Sheldon Stainer was born on 6 March 1912. He was the son of George Washington Stainer and Daisy Dell Tipton. Harry Sheldon Stainer died on 12 January 1952 at age 39.

     James Arthur Stainer was born on 23 August 1914. He was the son of William Edward Stainer and Mary Elizabeth Tipton. James Arthur Stainer married Wilhelmina Heller on 29 September 1945. James Arthur Stainer died on 5 June 1972 at age 57.
