She was born Nov. 21, 1910, to Nicholas and Anna Staihar. She died April 13, 2001, in Bandon.
Catherine's parents immigrated to the United States from the Ukraine, and she was proud of her Ukranian heritage. When she was 15 years old, she moved to Oregon to live with cousins in Crow. During the many decades that Catherine lived in Coquille, she dedicated herself to service, most notably to the St. James Episcopal Church Alter Guild, the Coquille Women's Club and Daughters of the Nile. During World War II, Catherine volunteered for the Red Cross. Due to failing health, she has spent the last few years in adult foster care in Bandon.
