Goldie Laverne Windle, 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Windle, Route 6, McAlester, died today at her home. She was born March 9, 1949 in Haywood. Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Windle; five sisters, Sue, Joyce, and Virgie, all of the home. Mrs. Violet Lowrimore of McAlester, and Mrs. Dorthy Edwards, Broken Bow; and three brothers, Bill Windle, Haywood, Bob Windle of Oklahoma City, and John Windle of McAlester. Funeral Services are pending at the Mills-Humphrey Funeral home.

Per Sallie Sue (Windle) Chubbee, Goldie never went to school. She had a form of Down Syndrome and could not talk or walk. Grandpa would carry her with him whenever he went out. She died of double pneumonia and every year spent weeks, and sometimes months in an Iron Lung machine around Christmas time.

The funeral service for Grace V. Dahl, 77, of Hillsboro, MO was held at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. The Rev. Charles Smith officiated.

Grace was born in St. Louis, MO. She was the daughter of the late Victor Windle and the late Veronica (nee Taaffe) Windle. She died on Nov. 28, 1988 at Normandy Osteopathic Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

She is survived by her husband, Walter R. Dahl. Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth Dahl of St. Louis County and Walter T. Dahl of Hillsboro; a daughter, Virginia Stephenson of Hillsboro; a brother, Daniel E. Windle, Sr. of St. Louis; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Grace was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. She was a retired deputy county auditor and Central Township Democratic committeewoman of Jefferson County.

Funeral arrangements were by Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.

She was buried in December 1988 at Glade Chapel Cemetery, Hillsboro, Jefferson Co., MO.

page 396... Orville Grant gave the place the name "Galena" for his former home in Galena, Illinois. This name was adopted when the first plat of the town was made October 10,1850. This plat contained 12 acres, taken from surveys, 7,808, 2,850, and 2,345, owned by B. Edwards, Aaron Moore and the heirs of Jesse Edwards. There were forty five lots on the plat numbered from 1 to 45. Four additions were made July 5,1883: lots 46 and 49 to 59, by Thomas Newman; lots 47 and 48 by John Williams; lots 60 to 65 by E.D.L.Morgan; lots 66 to 73 by Grafton Windle. These additions aggregate a little over 10 acres. On April 14,1891, Amos and Ella (Windle) Jenkins platted an addition containing 7 acres. The lots were numbered 74-79 and were part of survey 7,808. Grafton W. Windle was born on 20 May 1836 at Winchester, Frederick Co., VA. He was the son of Nicholas Hetrick Windle and Catherine Hillyard. Grafton W. Windle married Serena Howell, daughter of Jeremiah Howell and Julia Dotson, on 31 October 1859 at Scioto Co., OH. Grafton W. Windle lived in August 1860 at Springville, Greenup Co., KY; Census page 800. He died on 22 February 1904 at Rarden Twp., Scioto Co., OH, at age 67. He was buried in February 1904 at Newman Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Adams Co., OH.
