Earl Sturdevant, Native Of County, Dies In Rhode Island
     Dr. Earl G. Sturdevant, 75, of Bristol, Rhode Island, died Sunday, July 21, at a Rhode Island hospital.
     He was a native of Washington County, and was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Anderson Sturdevant.
     He received his B.A. from Indiana University in 1915, and his M.A. from the same institution in 1916. In 1920 he received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan.
     From 1916 to 1917 he was a chemist for the Grassel Chemical Company. From 1917 until 1920 he was instructor of Chemistry at the University of Michigan, and from 1920 until 1923 he was Professor of Chemistry at Western University in Ontario, Canada. From 1923 until 1929 he was Development Engineer at Western Electric Company in Chicago, Research Chemist for U.S. Rubber Company from 1929 until 1931, and Technical Director of the Wire Division of U.S. Rubber Company in Rhode Island from 1931 until his retirement in 1958.
     He was a fifty-year member of the American Chemists and a fifty-year member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers. He was also a member of the Tiller Masonic Lodge at Oak Park, Illinois.
     Survivors include his widow; Adele Dunbar Sturdevant, two brothers, Ralph G. Sturdevant, Rt. 2, Salem, and Ervin L. Sturdevant of Rt. 1, Campbellsburg, and three sisters: Miss Nora Sturdevant, Mrs. Geneva Mitney, and Mrs. Grover Hutchings, all of Greenfield, Indiana. One son preceded him in death.
     Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m. in the Dawalt Chapel. Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery in Washington County.

Earl Sturdevant, Former County Resident, Dies In Rhode Island
     Funeral services are to be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dawalt Funeral Home, Salem, for Dr. Earl G. Sturdevant, a former resident of Washington County. The Rev. George Stites will officiate and burial will follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery.
     Dr. Sturdevant, 75, died Sunday at a Rhode Island hospital. His home was located at Bristol, R.I.
     The deceased was born at Salem February 22, 1893, a son of the late James and Elizabeth Anderson Sturdevant, and lived in the Bunker Hill community before moving from this county.
     He received his B.A. degree from Indiana University in 1915 and his M.A. from I.U. in 1916. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Michigan in 1920.
     Dr. Sturdevant served as a chemist for the Grassel Chemical Co. from 1916-17; was a chemistry instructor at the University of Michigan, 1917-20; a professor at Western University, Ontario, 1920-23; development engineer for Western Electric Co., Chicago, 1923-29, and a research chemist for United States Rubber from 1929 through 1931.
     Dr. Sturdevant became technical director of the Wire Division of U.S. Rubber at Bristol in 1931, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1958.
     The deceased was a 50-year member of the American Chemical Society and the Institute of Electrical Engineers. He was a member of the Tillar Masonic Lodge, Oak Park, Illinois.
     Survivors include his widow, Adele Dunbar Sturdevant; two brothers, Ralph G. Sturdevant, Salem Route 2, and Ervin L. Sturdevant, Campbellsburg Route 1, and three sisters, Geneva Mitney, Mrs. Grover Hutchings and Miss Nora Sturdevant, all of Greenfield, Indiana.
     One son, Kenneth, died in 1958.

Funeral Rites Tuesday For J. N. Sturdevant
     James N. Sturdevant, 88 year old farmer and breeder of Belgian horses, died at his home in the Conoway neighborhood Saturday, Dec. 26. He had been ill a week.
     A lifelong resident of this county, he was born and lived in that neighborhood all his life. He was born January 31, 1865, the son of James Nelson and Catherine Lockenour Sturdevant. On April 16, 1883, he was married to Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. She died March 17, 1945.
     Surviving are three sons, Ralph, Salem; Irvin, Campbellsburg, Rt. 2, and Earl, Bristol, Rt. 1; four daughters, Mrs. Kate Haun, Minooka, Ill; Miss Nora Sturdevant, Mrs. Geneva Mitney and Mrs. Lillian Hutchings, Greenfield, Ind; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bunker Hill church with Rev. George W. Smith officiating and the Dawalt funeral home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was buried in December 1953 at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN.

STURDEVANT — Robert Malcolm Sturdevant was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., July 23, 1917, and died in Spokane, Wash., Dec. 19, 1951. In 1936, he came to the Northwest to attend Walla Walla College, and was graduated in 1942.

In August of 1942, he was married to Margaret Roberts, and their home was set up in the boys' dormitory at Yakima Valley Academy, Granger, Wash. The following year they moved to Oregon where both he and his wife assisted in evangelistic work. Following the effort at Grants Pass, they engaged in similar work at Falls City, Ore. and Eugene, Ore., till in 1946, Brother Sturdevant was called to connect with the Columbia Academy at Battleground, Wash., where he served as dean of boys for the next three years. In 1949, he was elected principal of Portland Union Academy in Portland, Ore., where he served for two years. In August of the present year, he was called to unite with the staff of the Upper Columbia Academy as science and mathematics instructor, in which capacity he was serving at the time of his sudden death.

Brother Sturdevant is survived by his wife Margaret, three children, Larry, Jimmy and Ann, and three brothers, Edwin Sturdevant of Casper, Wyo., Dr. Kenneth Sturdevant of Puyallup, Wash., and Gordon Sturdevant of Ardmore, Okla. Services were conducted by Elder W. C. Loveless and Elder Ray Alderson. Interment was made in the beautiful Fairmount Cemetery in Spokane.

He was buried in December 1951 at Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, Spokane Co., WA, Findagrave #103301058.

Graveside services for Edna Davault, 84, Creston, Iowa, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Vinland Cemetery with the Rev. Rachel Counts-Casson officiating. Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home, Creston.
Mrs. Davault died Saturday, June 5, 1993, at Crest Haven Nursing Home, Creston.
She was born May 19, 1909, at Vinland, the daughter of Lemuel and Mary Miller Sturdy.
A housewife, Mrs. Davault moved to Wellsville in 1927, then to Kansas City, Kan., in 1936. In 1943, she moved to Baldwin, living there for four years before moving to Creston.
Mrs. Davault was a member of the United Methodist Church, Creston.
She married Claude O. "Dutch" Davault on May 11, 1927, at Ottawa. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Doris Richardson, Ames, Iowa, and Nancy Johnson, Minden, Neb; a brother, Woodward Sturdy, Vinland; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was buried in June 1993 at Vinland Cemetery, Vinland, Douglas Co., KS.
