     Dr. Earl Grover Sturdevant was born on 22 February 1893 at Indiana. He was the son of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Dr. Earl Grover Sturdevant married Adele M. Earl Sturdevant, Native Of County, Dies In Rhode Island
     Dr. Earl G. Sturdevant, 75, of Bristol, Rhode Island, died Sunday, July 21, at a Rhode Island hospital.
     He was a native of Washington County, and was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Anderson Sturdevant.
     He received his B.A. from Indiana University in 1915, and his M.A. from the same institution in 1916. In 1920 he received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan.
     From 1916 to 1917 he was a chemist for the Grassel Chemical Company. From 1917 until 1920 he was instructor of Chemistry at the University of Michigan, and from 1920 until 1923 he was Professor of Chemistry at Western University in Ontario, Canada. From 1923 until 1929 he was Development Engineer at Western Electric Company in Chicago, Research Chemist for U.S. Rubber Company from 1929 until 1931, and Technical Director of the Wire Division of U.S. Rubber Company in Rhode Island from 1931 until his retirement in 1958.
     He was a fifty-year member of the American Chemists and a fifty-year member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers. He was also a member of the Tiller Masonic Lodge at Oak Park, Illinois.
     Survivors include his widow; Adele Dunbar Sturdevant, two brothers, Ralph G. Sturdevant, Rt. 2, Salem, and Ervin L. Sturdevant of Rt. 1, Campbellsburg, and three sisters: Miss Nora Sturdevant, Mrs. Geneva Mitney, and Mrs. Grover Hutchings, all of Greenfield, Indiana. One son preceded him in death.
     Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m. in the Dawalt Chapel. Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery in Washington County.

Earl Sturdevant, Former County Resident, Dies In Rhode Island
     Funeral services are to be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dawalt Funeral Home, Salem, for Dr. Earl G. Sturdevant, a former resident of Washington County. The Rev. George Stites will officiate and burial will follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery.
     Dr. Sturdevant, 75, died Sunday at a Rhode Island hospital. His home was located at Bristol, R.I.
     The deceased was born at Salem February 22, 1893, a son of the late James and Elizabeth Anderson Sturdevant, and lived in the Bunker Hill community before moving from this county.
     He received his B.A. degree from Indiana University in 1915 and his M.A. from I.U. in 1916. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Michigan in 1920.
     Dr. Sturdevant served as a chemist for the Grassel Chemical Co. from 1916-17; was a chemistry instructor at the University of Michigan, 1917-20; a professor at Western University, Ontario, 1920-23; development engineer for Western Electric Co., Chicago, 1923-29, and a research chemist for United States Rubber from 1929 through 1931.
     Dr. Sturdevant became technical director of the Wire Division of U.S. Rubber at Bristol in 1931, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1958.
     The deceased was a 50-year member of the American Chemical Society and the Institute of Electrical Engineers. He was a member of the Tillar Masonic Lodge, Oak Park, Illinois.
     Survivors include his widow, Adele Dunbar Sturdevant; two brothers, Ralph G. Sturdevant, Salem Route 2, and Ervin L. Sturdevant, Campbellsburg Route 1, and three sisters, Geneva Mitney, Mrs. Grover Hutchings and Miss Nora Sturdevant, all of Greenfield, Indiana.
     One son, Kenneth, died in 1958.

     Ervin L. Sturdevant was born on 21 April 1901 at Indiana. He was the son of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Ervin L. Sturdevant married Violet C. Lee, daughter of Alexander Lee and Ella Mae Johnson. Ervin L. Sturdevant died on 31 January 1985 at age 83. He was buried in February 1985 at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN.

     Geneva M. Sturdevant was born on 17 December 1907 at Indiana. She was the daughter of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Geneva M. Sturdevant married James Mitney after April 1940. Geneva M. Sturdevant died on 25 January 1998 at age 90.

     James Nelson Sturdevant married Catherine Lockenour.

     James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. was born on 31 January 1865 at Indiana. He was the son of James Nelson Sturdevant and Catherine Lockenour. Funeral Rites Tuesday For J. N. Sturdevant
     James N. Sturdevant, 88 year old farmer and breeder of Belgian horses, died at his home in the Conoway neighborhood Saturday, Dec. 26. He had been ill a week.
     A lifelong resident of this county, he was born and lived in that neighborhood all his life. He was born January 31, 1865, the son of James Nelson and Catherine Lockenour Sturdevant. On April 16, 1883, he was married to Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. She died March 17, 1945.
     Surviving are three sons, Ralph, Salem; Irvin, Campbellsburg, Rt. 2, and Earl, Bristol, Rt. 1; four daughters, Mrs. Kate Haun, Minooka, Ill; Miss Nora Sturdevant, Mrs. Geneva Mitney and Mrs. Lillian Hutchings, Greenfield, Ind; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bunker Hill church with Rev. George W. Smith officiating and the Dawalt funeral home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was buried in December 1953 at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN.

     Jesse J. Sturdevant was born on 18 March 1891 at Indiana. He was the son of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Jesse J.      Kenneth F. Sturdevant was born on 28 March 1925 at Illinois. He was the son of Dr. Earl Grover Sturdevant and Adele M. Dunbar. Kenneth F. Sturdevant married Alberta G. (?). Kenneth F. Sturdevant died on 18 November 1958 at age 33.

     Lillian A. Sturdevant was born on 13 April 1903 at Indiana. She was the daughter of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Lillian A. Sturdevant married Grover Hutchings. Lillian A. Sturdevant died on 15 January 1997 at age 93.

     Mary Kathryn Sturdevant was born on 8 June 1887 at Indiana. She was the daughter of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Mary Kathryn Sturdevant married Dennis Valley Hawn, son of Francis Marion Hawn and Miranda Morris, on 19 January 1909 at Washington Co., IN. Mary Kathryn Sturdevant died on 21 May 1965 at age 77. She was buried in May 1965 at Aux Sable Cemetery, Grundy Co., IL.

     Nora M. Sturdevant was born on 11 October 1898 at Indiana. She was the daughter of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Nora M. Sturdevant died on 14 October 1998 at age 100. She was buried in October 1998 at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN.

     Omer F. Sturdevant was born on 12 July 1895 at Indiana. He was the son of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Omer F. Sturdevant married Ethel Martin, daughter of William D. Martin and Emily Etta Ballentine. Omer F. Sturdevant died on 6 February 1938 at Washington Co., IN, at age 42.

     Rachel L. Sturdevant married Chapman Elrod on 18 October 1883 at Washington Co., IN.

     Ralph G. Sturdevant was born on 18 November 1905 at Indiana. He was the son of James Nelson Sturdevant Jr. and Amanda Elizabeth Anderson. Ralph G. Sturdevant married Gladys Fern Craig before April 1940. Ralph G. Sturdevant died on 15 June 1994 at age 88. He was buried in June 1994 at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN.

     Robert Malcolm Sturdevant was born on 23 July 1917 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., OK. He married Margaret Jane Roberts, daughter of John William Roberts and Minnie Elizabeth Nye, in August 1942. Robert Malcolm Sturdevant died on 19 December 1951 at Spokane, Spokane Co., WA, at age 34

STURDEVANT — Robert Malcolm Sturdevant was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., July 23, 1917, and died in Spokane, Wash., Dec. 19, 1951. In 1936, he came to the Northwest to attend Walla Walla College, and was graduated in 1942.

In August of 1942, he was married to Margaret Roberts, and their home was set up in the boys' dormitory at Yakima Valley Academy, Granger, Wash. The following year they moved to Oregon where both he and his wife assisted in evangelistic work. Following the effort at Grants Pass, they engaged in similar work at Falls City, Ore. and Eugene, Ore., till in 1946, Brother Sturdevant was called to connect with the Columbia Academy at Battleground, Wash., where he served as dean of boys for the next three years. In 1949, he was elected principal of Portland Union Academy in Portland, Ore., where he served for two years. In August of the present year, he was called to unite with the staff of the Upper Columbia Academy as science and mathematics instructor, in which capacity he was serving at the time of his sudden death.

Brother Sturdevant is survived by his wife Margaret, three children, Larry, Jimmy and Ann, and three brothers, Edwin Sturdevant of Casper, Wyo., Dr. Kenneth Sturdevant of Puyallup, Wash., and Gordon Sturdevant of Ardmore, Okla. Services were conducted by Elder W. C. Loveless and Elder Ray Alderson. Interment was made in the beautiful Fairmount Cemetery in Spokane.

He was buried in December 1951 at Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, Spokane Co., WA, Findagrave #103301058.

     Rodger D. Sturdevant was born on 2 April 1955. He was the son of Ervin L. Sturdevant and Violet C. Lee. Rodger D. Sturdevant died on 30 March 1986 at Washington Co., IN, at age 30. He was buried in April 1986 at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Franklin Twp., Washington Co., IN.

     Edna May Sturdy was born on 19 May 1909 at Vinland, Douglas Co., KS.¹ She was the daughter of Lemuel Sturdy and Mary Elizabeth Miller.² Edna May Sturdy married Claude Oliver DaVault, son of Jacob Wesley DaVault Jr. and Maude Matilda Snethen, on 11 May 1927 at Franklin Co., KS. Graveside services for Edna Davault, 84, Creston, Iowa, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Vinland Cemetery with the Rev. Rachel Counts-Casson officiating. Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home, Creston.
Mrs. Davault died Saturday, June 5, 1993, at Crest Haven Nursing Home, Creston.
She was born May 19, 1909, at Vinland, the daughter of Lemuel and Mary Miller Sturdy.
A housewife, Mrs. Davault moved to Wellsville in 1927, then to Kansas City, Kan., in 1936. In 1943, she moved to Baldwin, living there for four years before moving to Creston.
Mrs. Davault was a member of the United Methodist Church, Creston.
She married Claude O. "Dutch" Davault on May 11, 1927, at Ottawa. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Doris Richardson, Ames, Iowa, and Nancy Johnson, Minden, Neb; a brother, Woodward Sturdy, Vinland; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was buried in June 1993 at Vinland Cemetery, Vinland, Douglas Co., KS.

     Lemuel Sturdy was born in 1882 at Kansas.¹ He married Mary Elizabeth Miller.¹ Lemuel Sturdy died in 1937 at Douglas Co., KS. He was buried in 1937 at Vinland Cemetery, Baldwin City, Douglas Co., KS.

     Ann Rodgers Sturgeon was the daughter of Samuel Sturgeon and Margaret Rodgers Crain.

     Elizabeth L. Sturgeon was born circa 1856 at Ohio.¹ She married Franklin P. Windle, son of Augustine Windle and Hannah Lehman, on 14 December 1875.

     Frances Rodgers Sturgeon was the daughter of Samuel Sturgeon and Margaret Rodgers Crain.

     Jane Mitchell Sturgeon was born on 19 October 1836 at Churchtown, Cumberland Co., PA. She married Dr. John Harrison Rodgers, son of Dr. Robert Rodgers and Effie Harrison, on 21 May 1857 at Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA. Jane Mitchell Sturgeon died on 20 October 1869 at age 33.

     Samuel Sturgeon was buried at Hanover Churchyard, Dauphin Co., PA. He married Margaret Rodgers Crain, daughter of George Crain and Jean Rodgers. Samuel Sturgeon was born circa 1741. He died on 2 October 1801 at Dauphin Co., PA.

     Frank Sturges was born on 14 September 1893 at DuPage Co. (probably), IL.¹ He was the son of Lee Sturges and Mary Allen Sullivant.¹ Frank Sturges married Lillian Read Penn. Frank Sturges died on 20 May 1963 at Mobile, Mobile Co., AL, at age 69. He was buried in May 1963 at Fairhope, Baldwin Co., AL, Findagrave #109632325.

     Frank Sturges was born in October 1842 at Ohio.¹ He married Lily L. Lee, daughter of Oliver H. Lee, circa 1865.¹ Occupation: Manufacturer in 1900 at York Twp., DuPage Co., IL.¹

     Frank Sturges III was born on 27 July 1923. He was the son of Frank Sturges and Lillian Read Penn. Frank Sturges III died on 16 April 2005 at Mobile, Mobile Co., AL, at age 81.
