Sam Hill Windle, 76, of Brownville, died Wednesday afternoon at Druid City Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Brownville Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. T.C. Massie and the Rev. Charles Deal, with burial in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, Spigener-Brown Service is in charge.
Mr. Windle was a native of Pickens County and had lived in Brownville the last 33 years. He was a retired foreman for the Brown Wood Preserving Co., and was a Mason and Woodman of the World. He was a World War I veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lois Windle: a son, B.L. Windle of Brownville; three sisters, Mrs. J.S. Noland of Carrollton, Mrs. Atlee Acker of Demopolis and Mrs. C.H. Hethcox of Aliceville; two brothers, W. J. Windle of Mobile, and a grandchild.
Active pallbearers will be nephews, Ray Rumanek, C.J. Hethcox, Clarence Hill Noland, Edwin Wicker, Pharis Windle, and Alton Noland.

"DEATH OF SAMUEL L. WINDLE.

Samuel L. Windle, one of the old pioneers of Macon county, died at his home four miles south of Ethel Saturday, Dec. 22, at the ripe old age of 79 years, 11 months.

"Uncle Sam" as he was better known, came to this country at an early date from Virginia and settled in Macon County, where he has lived up to the time of his death.

He was married three times but his three wives passed on before him.

He leaves eight daughters and two sons: Mrs. Liza Burnett, Guthrie, I.T., Mrs. Ella Owens, Guthrie, I.T., Mrs. Mat Barger, Guthrie, I.T., Mrs. Alice Ward, Guthrie, I.T., Mrs Irene Gilbert, Ethel, Mo., Manda Mayfield, Ethel, Mo., Mrs. Lizzie Jackson, Macon, Mo., Mrs. Geor. Grubb, Macon, Mo., Chas. Windle, Chicago, Ill., Edwin Windle, Leavenworth, Texas.

Funeral services were conducted at the White Oak church after which his remains were laid to rest in the White Oak cemetery."

CARROLLTON Samuel Ralph Windle, Sr., age 92, of Carrollton, died April 27, 2009, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Carrollton Baptist Church with Rev. Parker Windle, Dr. P. Joe Whitt, Rev. Tommy Winders, and Rev. Ralph Windle, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church.

His wife, Ruby Parker Windle; parents, Cole and Minnie Pate Windle; and sisters, Laura Poole and Genia Billing preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughter, Emily W. Kirk (Buddy) of Carrollton, Ala; his sons, Ralph Windle, Jr. (Ann) of Columbus, Miss. and Dennis Windle (Sandra) of Northport, Ala; his sisters, Dot Walters (Richard) and Jeweleen Burkhalter; his brothers, Olen Windle (Kathryn) and Bobby Windle (Bonnie); five grandchildren, Amy Kirk McIntosh (John), Leigh Ann White, Carol Kirk Reeves (Keith), Parker Windle and Savannah Pate (Jason); five great-grandchildren, Jake McIntosh, Sam White, Ashleigh White, Mallory McIntosh and Matthew Reeves; and step great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brooke and Carrington Reeves.

On April 1, 1917 there was born into the home of Minnie and Cole Windle, a son named Samuel Ralph Windle, the oldest of seven children. Mr. Windle started his life out in a community called Kirk, several miles outside of Gordo, Ala. He was a self employed business man most of his adult life operating a lumber business, hardware store, clothing stores and a grocery store. Back in the mid 1950's he also served for four years as a representative in the State Legislature in Montgomery, Ala.

Mr. Windle has lived the past five years at his home with caregivers with him around the clock. His main caregiver, Mrs. Louise Grey, not only cared for him these past five years but she also cared for his wife for six years until her death.

Mr. Windle was married to Ruby Pearl Parker Windle for 67 years. He provided care for her in their home until her death six years ago. They were able to celebrate 67 years of marriage together.

Mr. Windle has been a member of the Carrollton Baptist Church since 1945. The church recently honored him by electing him Deacon Emeritus, which is an honorary deacon for life. Come and join with us in a celebration of life.

Pallbearers will be Parker Windle, John McIntosh, Keith Reeves, Jason Pate, Jake McIntosh, and Sam White.

Honorary pallbearers are the Men's Bible Class at Carrollton Baptist Church.

Whitsett. We are sorry to chronicle the death of our old friend and fellow citizen, S. W. Windle, whose demise occurred Feb. 27th, 1896. He was born in Overton county, Tenn., April 5, 1813, and was married to Mrs. Betsy M. Pertle of the same county in 1839. Their union was blessed with seven children, four boys and three girls, five of whom survive. He moved to Dent county in 1858, thence to Crawford in 1864 where he has lived since. He has been justice of the peace for many years which place he has filled with honor. He has been a member of the Christian church for 58 years.
We extend our sympathy to the family in their sad bereavement.

"Ere sin could harm, or sorrow fade.
Death came with friendly care;
The opening bud to heaven conveyed,
And bade it blossom there." He was buried in March 1896 at Barnes Cemetery, Cuba, Crawford Co., MO.
