Georgia Kenyon Trotter
F, b. 24 July 1892, d. 4 January 1916
Georgia Kenyon Trotter was born on 24 July 1892 at Columbus, Cherokee Co., KS. She was the daughter of Luke T. Trotter and Gertrude A. Crawford. Georgia Kenyon Trotter married Strawder Cleveland Briggs, son of William Briggs and Lavina Elizabeth James, in 1907. Georgia Kenyon Trotter died on 4 January 1916 at San Antonio, Bexar Co., TX, at age 23 Obituaries (Findagrave.com):
Georgia was the daughter of Luke T. and Gertrude A. (Crawford) Trotter. Following the death of her mother in 1900 Georgia and her brother, Holland, were raised by her grandfather and step-grandmother, George W. and Jennie (McCollister) Crawford. The Crawford family moved to Ganado, Jackson County, Texas circa 1904. It was here that Georgia met and married Strawder C. Briggs on November 17, 1907. She was 15 years old at the time of her marriage. Georgia died from pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 23 years. She left two small daughters, Mabel Elizabeth "Betsy" (age 4) and Georgianna (later renamed Wilma Georgia) (age 2).
Mrs. S.C. Briggs
DIED - Of tuberculosis and resultant complications, at San Antonio, Texas, Tuesday, January 4, 1916, Mrs. S.C. Briggs, aged about 23 years.
Georgia Trotter was born at Columbus, Kansas, July 24, 1892. When she was yet quite a small child her mother died and following that she made her home with her grandfather, George W. Crawford. About twelve years ago she came with the Crawford family to Ganado, which place has been her home almost continuously since.
November 17, 1908 (1907), she was united in marriage with Straud C. Briggs, an energetic young rice planter of this community. To this union two children, Mabel Elizabeth and Georgia Wilma, were born. The little ones are now at the home of their grandparents at New Holland, Ohio, being taken there during the time the home was broken and the mother was at San Angelo.
A couple or three years ago Mrs. Briggs developed lung trouble and it was following this that the home was broken up and the children sent to Ohio. Every possible thing was done to affect a cure. Expense was as nothing. The best physicians in the state were consulted and she spent months at the San Angelo tent colony. At times it appeared as if the battle had been won and Mrs. Briggs had regained her health. And then the relapse. Complications developed which hastened the end.
She left San Angelo some time Monday and late that evening reached the home of her aunt, Mrs. B.D. Kent (Mabel Crawford) at San Antonio. She was a very sick woman and sank rapidly, the end coming about 5 o'clock Tuesday morning. She was with near and dear relatives but apart from her husband and children. Mr. Crawford and Mr. Briggs left Tuesday noon for San Antonio and will carry the remains to Columbus, Kansas, where they will rest beside those of her mother.
Mrs. Briggs was a splendid woman and it is hard to fathom the mysteries of Providence in her early taking. She was all that can be embodied in a woman of principle and her good name will be a heritage to her husband and children.
The genuine, the heartfelt sympathy of our people goes out to the sorrowing ones.
