James Franklin Van Fossen, 69, who had worked as a carpenter in the Rock Island shops in Cedar Rapids 20 years prior to his retirement in 1937, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home in Center Point.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Clarence, and a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Faulkner, both of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Mrs. James Van Fossen, Center Point; five sisters and four brothers.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Christian church in Center Point.

He was buried in August 1946 at Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Linn Co., IA, Findagrave #38649088.

CEDAR FALLS -- Marcella Kitzmiller, 74, of 3120 Big Woods Road, died Wednesday, July 25, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of respiratory failure.
She was born July 18, 1916 in Shell Rock, daughter of Henry J. and Mary Ellen Sansenbach Van Hauen. She married James D. Kitzmiller on Dec. 21, 1945 in Vero Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Kitzmiller received her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and taught school in the Belmond School system. Prior to World War II she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C. She served in the Navy during World War II and up to retirement in 1964 was a bookkeeper for Cedar Falls Furniture Upholstery Co.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Paul E. of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Jean K. Sterling of Ankeny; and two sisters, Evelyn Wilkes of Terrell, Texas and Beulah Martin of Newell; she was preceded in death by a son, Jack in infancy; and a brother, Orlow Van Hauen.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery. There will be no visittion.
