EDWARD WALKER
     Edward B. Walker, age 81 of Pekin, died at the Washington County Memorial Hospital in Salem.
     He was a life long resident of Washington County, born October 27, 1883, the son of William A. and Lucinda C. Payne Walker. He had been a member of the Blue River Baptist Church since 1933.
     He was a former mail carrier for the Salem Post Office and a school teacher in Franklin Township for many years.
     His wife, Hattie Elizabeth Baker, died in 1954. Surviving him are, four nieces, Hazel Taylor, Pekin; Dorothy Anderson and Helen Haley, both of Salem; and Maude Dean, Scottsburg; three great nieces, and one great nephew also survives.
     Services were Saturday at the Blue River Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Cecil Irvin officiated.

He was buried in July 1965 at Blue River Baptist Cemetery, Washington Co., IN.

F M Walker, 88, Union Veteran, Died Wednesday

Eight days illness fatal to pioneer, who had been married more than 65 years and was prominent in Audrain Co.

After a brief illness of 8 days duration, Francis Marion Walker, 88–year old veteran of the Union Army in the Civil War, and one of the eldest married men in this city, died at his home on this Eastholm Street at 9:45 o'clock Wednesday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Walker had been married more than 65 years, and had lived happily together since December 9, 1863.

Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, with Rev. F. C. Tucker and Dr. A. A. Wallace officiating, and with burial at Benson city.

Mr. Walker had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, throughout his lifetime, and an officer at Martinsburg for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Walker lived in or near Martinsburg during their married life until June 1925, 4 years ago, when they moved to Mexico, and have since resided near their daughter, Mrs. J. B. DeVault, maintaining their own home, and having an active interest in life and its affairs.

Mr. Walker was born on June 17, 1841, in Augusta County, Virginia, coming to Missouri, and to Audrain County, in a covered wagon when a youth of 17 years. After living with his brother, Thomas, in Montgomery County, for a time, he went, he went to Illinois for two years and there, in April, 1861, when the Civil War broke out, joined Company H, Seventeenth Illinois Volunteers, at Lewistown, and serving two years.

After his discharge, he returned to Missouri, and on December 9, 1863, Miss Phoebe Dye became his bride, and they moved to the 354–acre Dolan farm, south of Martinsburg, where they lived thirty years, moving to Martinsburg in 1893.

Active in Democratic politics, he was a state delegate in 1896 when Bryan was boosted for the presidency.

Four children, Mrs. J. B. DeVault, Mexico; Mrs. Cynthia Warnecke, Bulter, Mo; George Walker, Garden City, Kan; and Marion Walker, Omaha, Neb., survive, together with the devoted wife. There are also eight grandchildren, Walker Hughes, Mexico; the three children of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. DeVault, the three children of Mr. and Mrs. George Walker, and one child of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Walker. Three great grandchildren also survive

Two daughters, Mrs. Lute Diggs at Mrs. R. L. Hughes, and three other children, are deceased.

Mr. Walker earned a reputation for progressiveness and enterprise while farming that remained with him after retirement, and he was highly respected and widely known, and his death will be be widely regretted.

The Ledger joins friends in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
