Mrs. Goldie Landis
COSHOCTON – Mrs. Goldie Landis, 70, of RD 3 died Monday afternoon in Coshocton County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

Born at Cambridge, a daughter of the late J.E. and Lillie Drubbs (sic) Wendell, she attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Canton. She was married in 1917 to Willard Landis, who survives.

Others surviving are 6 sons, Neilan of Newcomerstown, Donald and Ernest of West Lafayette, Paul of North Canton, Wendell of Wilmot and Loren of Pinesville (sic), Oreg; 2 daughters, Mrs. Mildred Register of Canton and Mrs. Dorothy Izey of Phoenix, Ariz; 2 brothers, Raymond of Canton and Ralph of Carrollton; a sister, Mrs. Roland Hein of Carrollton; 31 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Two sons and a daughter preceded her in death.

Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Dawson Funeral Home with Rev. Edsel Hartman officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Newcomerstown. Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9.

     Gordon Gray Wendell was born on 18 March 1947 at Shreveport, Caddo Par., LA. He was the son of Gordon Gray Wendell and Betty Jo McCaskill.      Guy M. Wendell was born in June 1881 at New Holland, Logan Co., IL.¹ He was the son of William Lawrence Wendell and Anna Catherina Bollinger.¹ Guy M. Wendell married Faye Mullin, daughter of Benjamin F. Mullin and Lydia Sullivan, circa 1903. Guy M. Wendell lived on 21 April 1910 at Lincoln Twp., Ottawa Co., KS, Painter and farmer.² He lived on 2 January 1920 at Sugar Grove, Menard Co., IL, Elevator manager.³ He died in 1937.      Haines E. J. Wendell was born circa 1912 at Kansas. He was the son of Oscar P. Wendell and Myrtle M. Whitley. Haines E. J. Wendell married Zella M. Britt, daughter of John C. Britt and Myrtle E. (?). Haines E. J. Wendell died before 2003.

     Occupation: U.S. Air Force, helicopter pilot, later was a math teacher. Harold Gilbert Wendell was degree at Plattsburgh, Clinton Co., NY, BA degree, Plattsburgh State College.
Note: Pilot of first helicopter to land on the White House lawn and fly the President. Was assigned to Air Force squadron responsible for transporting President Eisenhower. He was born on 22 December 1923 at Percy, Randolph Co., IL. He was the son of Fred Roscoe Wendell and Rosa Louise Brandhorst. Harold Gilbert Wendell was retired in 1964; Major, U.S. Air Force. Cause of death: in 1976 Heart attack. He died on 5 January 1976 at Turin, Lewis Co., NY, at age 52. He was buried in January 1976 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Co., VA.

     Henry Harrison Wendell was born on 25 May 1816 at Woodstock, Shenandoah Co., VA. He was the son of Daniel Wendell and Lucinda Effinger. Henry Harrison Wendell married Melissa M. Hopkins, daughter of William Hopkins and Mary Pumphrey, on 22 April 1841. Henry Harrison Wendell lived in 1870 at Williamsburg (now Batesville), Noble Co., OH.³ He lived in 1880 at Noble Co., OH, Relocated from Shenandoah County, Virgnia, in 1824, per "The Independent" newpaper article on 50th anniversary.^4,2

     Harrison Fletcher Wendell was born on 2 December 1867 at Batesville, Noble Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Daniel F. Wendell and Hannah L. Shaub. Harrison Fletcher Wendell married Laura Gallogly, daughter of Jacob Gallogly and Frances Brown, on 15 August 1892 at Newark, Licking Co., OH. Occupation: Harrison Fletcher Wendell ( most of the time known as Harry F. or H.F. Wendell) born December 2,1867 in Noble County. Raised in Batesville, in 1883 at sixteen he moved to Cambridge where he learned the printing trade. In 1894 he moved to Leipsic, Ohio and became owner and editor of the Leipsic Tribune. He sold the newspaper in 1899. In 1898 he started Wendell Memorial Card Co. and the Wendell Printing Co. In 1913 he started the Wendell Vacuum Washer Co. In 1899 started the U.S. Mop Co. Grandson Clyde has stationary with the letterhead of the Mop Co. and the Wendell Washer Co. He was vice-president of the First National Bank of Leipsic, was on the city council, the board of education and held many offices as well as a very successful businessman. Around 1918 he moved to East Cleveland, Ohio. Harry died in 1942. Laura died in 1953. They had one son: Francis Dana Wendell.

     Harry L. Wendell was born on 14 November 1927 at Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH. He was the son of Roy Wendell and Bertha Caldwell. Harry L. Wendell married Josephine Heit, No children born to this marriage. Harry L. Wendell died on 18 January 1997 at age 69. He was buried in January 1997 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron, Summit Co., OH.

     Harry Melroy Wendell was born on 16 February 1864 at Belmont Co., OH. He was the son of William James Wendell and Susannah A. Jeffery.

     Hattie Florence Wendell was born on 17 November 1884 at Lewisville, Monroe Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Rebecca Wendell. Hattie Florence Wendell married Edward Henry Young, son of Heinrich Young and Barbara E. Koehler, on 15 October 1902. Hattie Florence Wendell lived in January 1920 at Pike Twp., Coshocton Co., OH.² She died on 8 March 1943 at Mennonite Old People's Home, Milton Twp., Wayne Co., OH, at age 58.

     Hattie V. Wendell was born in August 1861.^1,2 She was the daughter of Henry Harrison Wendell and Melissa M. Hopkins.
Note: From the Brownsville Herald, Brownsville, TX October 23, 1909:

"Frank's sister Hattie only had three weeks to live when they went to Donna, TX with Jerome Goodheart. The move took place five years after the death of their father Harrison in 1905."

The paper described funeral services and the purchase of some land just three or four miles west of Brownsville, along with the description of a setup of tents for housing. No reason given for the move to Texas.

Hattie V. Wendell died on 23 October 1909 at Donna, Hidalgo Co., TX, at age 48.

     Hazel Wendell was born on 21 February 1906. She was the daughter of Joseph Edward Wendell and Lillian Jane Grubbs. Hazel Wendell married Roland Hein, son of Paul H. Hein and Mary (?), after 1920 at Stark Co. (probably), OH. Hazel Wendell died on 14 June 1969 at age 63.

     Helen Louise Wendell was born on 4 March 1905 at Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH. She was the daughter of William Sherman Wendell and Rosa Marie Bragg. Helen Louise Wendell married Charles Dallas Hurd, son of Benjamin Franklin Hurd and Ella Florence Morris, on 21 April 1924 at Greensburg, Summit Co., OH. Helen Louise Wendell died on 3 July 1990 at La Grande, OR, at age 85. She was buried on 6 July 1990 at Island City Cemetery, OR.

Helen L. Hurd
Helen Louise Hurd, 85, of La Grande, died Tuesday, July 3, at Grande Ronde Hospital. A service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel. Pastor Frank Wiens of the La Grande First Baptist Church will officiate. Committal and burial will follow at Island City Cemetery. Mrs. Hurd was born March 4, 1905, in Cambridge, Ohio to William S. and Rosa Marie (Bragg) Wendell. On April 21, 1924, she married Charles Dallas Hurd in Greensburg, Ohio. The couple came to La Grande from Salem in April 1988. Mr. Hurd died Sept. 25, 1988. Mrs. Hurd enjoyed oil painting, sewing, bowling and flower gardening. Survivors include daughters Marjorie Thompson of Bakersfield, Calif., Eleanor Wilson of La Grande, Donna Brown of La Grande, and Barbara Worth of Seattle; sisters Dorotha Hamilton of East Canton, Ohio, Sarah Rhoades of East Canton, and Mae Isabell Eliott of Akron, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives. A grandson, two brothers and three sisters died earlier. Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

     Helen Marie Wendell was born on 1 May 1933 at Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH. She was the daughter of Wilber W. Wendell and Theora Edna Winnett. Helen Marie Wendell married George Lawson Rountree circa 1976 at San Diego Co., CA. Helen Marie Wendell lived in 1982 at Albuquerque, Bernalillo Co., NM. She lived in 1999 at Escondido, San Diego Co., CA. She died on 10 March 2000 at San Diego Co., CA, at age 66 per SSDI, last residence Escondido.      Helen Reynolds Wendell was born on 29 March 1889 at Kanawha Co. (probably), WV.¹ She was the daughter of John Henry Windell and Mary Ellen Hicks.¹ Helen Reynolds Wendell married Howard Cleveland Gardner, son of James Dryden Gardner and Susan M. Roberts, circa 1910.² Helen Reynolds Wendell died on 15 January 1959 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV, at age 69.

     Henry Nelson Wendell was also known as "Harry". He was born on 9 December 1871 at Blue Sulphur, Greenbrier Co., WV, 1900 census shows year 1870.¹ He was the son of Thomas Allen Windle and Matilda Ann Parker.¹ Henry Nelson Wendell married Priscilla Agnes Deitz. Henry Nelson Wendell died on 4 July 1960 at Montgomery, Fayette Co., WV, at age 88.
