Jacob Wyscarver, one of the most prominent farmers of Noble county, died at his home in Beaver township Wednesday, September 18th, after a lingering illness.

Jacob Wyscarver was born in Greene county, Penn., September 15, 1817. He came to Ohio when about 10 years old. In early manhood he purchased 40 acres of land in Monroe county, but never went to see it, selling it in a short time and purchasing 80 acres that is a part of the large farm on which he died. The original 80 acre tract was augmented by the purchase of other land until now the Wyscarver homestead comprises over 800 acres of the best land in Noble county. The farm is the best improved and most convenient tract of land the writer ever saw in any county or any state.

The deceased was the father of 12 children, 11 of whom survive him. One of these, Thos. J., lives in Cincinnati and is the editor of the Harness World. Henry Lives in Kansas City; William is postmaster at Oakley, Logan county, Kansas; and James lives in Chicago. The balance of the family live in this county.

Samuel Wyscarver, from Greene county, Pa., settle in this township in 1828, and his son Jacob in 1830. The latter is one of the leading farmers of the county. He made his first purchase of land (seventy-three acres) in 1843. To this he has made additions, so that he now owns about one thousand acres of the best land in the county. He has upon his land five dwelling houses and the best of improvements. In 1839 Mr. Wyscarver married Rhoda, daughter of Daniel Wendall, an early settler. They have had twelve children, eleven of whom are living.

He was buried in September 1889 at Wyscarver Cemetery, Beaver Twp., Noble Co., OH, Findagrave #197284193.

James K. Wyscarver, aged eighty-eight years, born and reared in the vicinity of Batesville, died last Thursday evening at the home of his nephew, James Wyscarver, from ailments incident to his advanced years. His boyhood days were spent in Beaver township and later in life he became a traveling salesman for a Chicago shoe company, and as such his travels carried him to all parts of the world. For the past several years he had lived a retired life. Two brothers, and one sister survive. Funeral services were held at the home of the nephew, Sunday afternoon, and interment was made in the Wyscarver private burial grounds near Batesville.

He was buried in January 1936 at Wyscarver Cemetery, Beaver Twp., Noble Co., OH, Findagrave #197285497.

U.S. Veteran Robert Leo Wyscarver, 92, of Quaker City, passed away Monday (August 27, 2012) at Emerald Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Barnesville.

He was born June 12, 1920 in Beaver Township/Noble County, son of the late William and Myrtle (Buyas) Wyscarver.

He was a 1938 graduate of Batesville High School.

Mr. Wyscarver was a US Navy veteran, having served during WWII.

He was employed with V.O. Menuez of Millersburg and later retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

He was a life-long farmer and a fifty-plus year member of Grange.

In his younger years, he enjoyed baseball, golf, bowling, fast pitch softball, and horseshoes.

On February 2, 1939 he married Grace Marie Long, who passed away May 30, 2008.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl House; and a daughter-in-law, Connie Wyscarver.

He leaves a daughter, Joyce (& David) Wehr of Beallsville; three sons, Ronald Wyscarver of Barnesville, Gerry (& Dorothy) Wyscarver of Westerville, and Richard (& Sheryl) Wyscarver of Quaker City; three sisters, Marie Stoneburner of Salesville, Dorothy McKinistry of Huntington Beach CA, and Lucille (& Emerson) Christman of Cambridge; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a special niece, Shelly Lucas; and a special friend, Sally Dingus.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, and also on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (August 30, 2012) at 11 a.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, with Pastor Mark Slay officiating.

Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert's name may be made to one of the following organizations: 1) Kennonsburg United Methodist Church, 57599 Kennonsburg Road, Quaker City OH 43773; 2) Quaker City Fire Department, PO Box 326, Quaker City OH 43773; or 3) Hospice of Guernsey, Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.

     Theodore Eugene Wyscarver was also known as "Ted". He was born on 2 March 1931 at Omaha, Douglas Co., NE. He was the son of James Howard Wyscarver and Irene Dorothy Lesch. Theodore Eugene Wyscarver died on 31 December 1997 at Cass Co., IA, at age 66 Dates per SSDI, lst residence Atlantic. Thomas Jefferson Wyscarver1

M, b. August 1848, d. 23 January 1928
     Thomas Jefferson Wyscarver was born in August 1848 at Batesville, Guernsey (now Noble) Co., OH, On the 1900 census, his birth date is shown as AUG 1851, however he was listed as age 2 on the 1850 census.2 He was the son of Jacob Wyscarver and Rhoda Wendell. Thomas Jefferson Wyscarver married Laura M. Blough circa 1887.3 Thomas Jefferson Wyscarver lived in 1889 at Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH, editor of Harness World per his father's obituary. He lived on 18 June 1900 at Sharonville, Hamilton Co., OH, publisher.3
Note: Wrote an article on the life of his mother, published in the Quaker City Independent, week of 21 June 1903. He died on 23 January 1928 at Cook Co., IL, at age 79. He was buried in January 1928 at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH, Findagrave #79078448.
