Windell married Sarah Jane DeLong, daughter of William DeLong and Katharine Ensley, on 12 April 1858 at Ross Co., OH, Ross County Marriage Book, Vol. G3, page 340.

6 children born to this marriage, 5 living as of 1900 census, 4 living as of 1910 census. Son William had died young in 1875. It appears that daughter Mary died between June 1900 and April 1910.¹ William H. Windell lived in June 1860 at Huntington Twp., Ross Co., OH.⁴

At least one online genealogy shows this individual as the son of William Windell and Elizabeth Long, however that is not correct. Their son William T. Windell married Cora Felts on 6 JUL 1890 in Harrison County, and their family is listed in the 1900 census, in New Albany, Floyd County. Moreover, William T. Windell's marriage record names his parents, although there is a transcription error that shows his middle initial as "P." and another transcription error that shows his mother's maiden name as "Lone" instead of Long. The "Windell" spelling suggests William H. Windell was from the Harrison County, Indiana branch of Wendel descendants, but a positive ID in the earlier censuses has not been made. DLB 2019.
