Mrs. Mary Jane Crosby, age 91 years, of 252 Crosby avenue, one of the city's oldest residents, died at 4:30 a.m. today at the W. G. Windle home, 402 South North Washington street.
Just a week ago while attending memorial services for William Garland Windle, Jr., she was stricken following the rites, suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. Her condition from that time on remained critical.
The decedent was born in Valparaiso on April 8, 1851, a daughter of Temple Windle and Sarah (Jessup) Windle.
She was united in marriage to Freeman Crosby on October 9, 1871, by the Rev. Robert Beer, pastor of the Presbyterian church.
Her husband, who preceded her in death a number of years ago, was engaged in the milling business and also operated a flour and feed store. He was a member of the city council for a number of years.
Services Thursday
Surviving are one daughter, Miss Clara Crosby, a retired Valparaiso city school teacher; two sons, Van Ness Crosby of Chicago and Thomas Crosby of San Francisco, Cal; three grandchildren, Field Crosby and Mrs. Charles McGill, of Valparaiso, and Mary Jo Crosby, of San Francisco, Cal., and four great-grandchildren, Marian and Marjorie Crosby, Molly and Jimmie McGill, of Valparaiso. A son, Glen Crosby, preceded his mother in death.
Memorial services will be held at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at the Bartholomew chapel on Washington street, Rev. Chester W. Wharton, of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Friends may call at the Bartholomew chapel this evening from 8 o'clock and up until time of the services.
