He was of German descent, and came to the State of Ohio in 1837, where he engaged in farming until his death, which occurred in 1866. Phoebe (Boothe) Brosius, the mother of our subject, was also a native of Pennsylvania, and was born in 1794, and died in 1869. Our subject accompanied his parents to Ohio, and lived with them until he was twenty-four years old, when he came to Illinois, and farmed there until 1865. He then came to Clark County, Mo., where he remained until 1881, or until he came to Greensburg Township, Knox County, and engaged in the mercantile business, which he has successfully followed ever since. In 1858 our subject was united in marriage to Mary Starr, daughter of James and Phoebe (Hillis) Starr. This union of our subject and wife was blessed with three daughters, viz.: Emma P., Lula B. and Anna M. Our subject has nine living brothers, three of whom are younger than himself. He is a stanch Republican, but has never sought or held political office, preferring the quiet of his home life to that of political worry and trouble. Tragedy Strikes Jud Brott Home When Accident Claims Life of Small Son, Douglas Brott, 18 Months

Tragedy struck the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jud Brott of Lance Creek early last Saturday afternoon, when their small son, Douglas James, was critically injured in an accident that occurred as the father and several of the children were cleaning out the corral and yard.

Mr. Brott and several of the children were working up near the corral cleaning up some miscellaneous lumber and nails and hauling manure from the barnyard, when Douglas fell from a pickup in which he was riding with his sister, Bonnie, and two brothers, Jake and Ed. The door of the vehicle somehow came open and Douglas tumbled out hitting his head on the running board, and it is believed that the right front wheel passed over his chest while the pickup was being backed up. Specific injuries were cerebral concussion and crushing injury to the right lung.

The parents rushed the child to the Niobrara Memorial Hospital where he passed away within 30 minutes after his arrival.

Last rites were held Tuesday afternoon from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Train of the Lance Creek Community Church officiating. During the services the Misses Mary Ellen Wilson and Lois Mosier sang "Jesus Loves Me," and "Jewels," with Mrs. Judson P. Watson presiding at the organ. Mrs. Dean Long sang as a solo, "Safe in The Arms of Jesus," with Mrs. Lester Meade accompanying. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
