David Brumfield
M, b. 14 November 1761, d. 17 May 1849
Note: Source: Descendants of Thomas Brumfield by R.C. Brumfield and B.O. Brumfield.
Thomas Brumfield immigrated to America during the early 1700's. The exact date of his coming is probably contained in hither to unpublished records of ships entering and leaving the Port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Thomas had a son Solomon who removed to Berks County, Pennsylvania and lived there all his life. Solomon had a son David who removed to Augusta (later Rockingham) County, Virginia.
David Brumfield's wife Patience Tallman bore him seventeen children from 1786 to 1810. She died in Virginia in the year 1816, and was buried in the old cemetery of the Linville Creek Baptist Church. His eldest son Solomon had left home and gone down the Ohio, and was not heard from again. His next son William Tallman Brumfield was in Ohio, land-looking and visiting his grandparents, Benjamin and Dinah Tallman. David himself made a trip to Ohio in 1817 and visited relatives as well as looked the situation over. He also acquired a new wife at some unknown date, by name Jane Mc Cleery (probably a widow). At an unknown date between 1817 and 1820 he moved with his minor children and possibly some married ones to a new home near Lancaster, in Fairfield County, Ohio. He was then well past sixty years of age but apparently vigorous. On the farm which he took in Hocking Township, Fairfield County, Ohio, is one of those peculiar geological formations known as knobs. The sandstone protrudes upward from the plain for perhaps two or more hundreds of feet. On the side of this knob, David Bromfield built a house, where it stands today (1960). It is of brick and stone.
David Brumfield was born on 14 November 1761 at Berks Co., PA. He was the son of Solomon Brumfield and Sarah Evans. David Brumfield married Patience Tallman, daughter of Benjamin Tallman and Dinah Boone, on 13 April 1786 at Rockingham Co., VA. David Brumfield married Jane McCleery circa 1817. David Brumfield died on 17 May 1849 at Hocking Twp., Fairfield Co., OH, at age 87. He was buried in May 1849 at Hooker Cemetery, Hocking Twp., Fairfield Co., OH.
