Mrs. Powell was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, active in church activities, including choir membership. As a young woman, she taught school in South Texas. She loved music, became an accomplished painter and sculptor after her retirement, and wrote poetry. She traveled extensively. Mrs. Powell will be best remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her family said. Raised in Palacios, Texas, she married Vogt Powell on Nov. 11, 1927. They raised their family in several towns in South Texas, and later lived on Okinawa for 13 years. After their return from overseas, the Powells resided in Victoria. Mrs. Powell moved to Richardson in 1970.

Julia B. Clements

F, b. 15 May 1874, d. 14 April 1912
Note: Dr. Franklin Hunt Broyles provided the following information in a letter to Rachel Sophia (DeVault) McLean, dated February 19, 1934:
Will married Julia Clements of St. Louis, a very noted young woman, and they lived in Denver Colo, Some friends were visiting them, and she was going to take them for a drive over the city, and in some way fell on some stone steps, and was severly injures, internally, the trouble finally developing into a cancerous condition, which caused her death, in I think 1912, Her people were Catholics, and she was an only child, and Will allowed them to bury her in a Catholic cemetery in St. Louis, Will never recovered from her death, and finally give up his business and come to us, where he lingered a few yeares, and died in 1915, and I buried him in a beautiful Cemetery at Auburn Nebraska, He was a member of the Christian Church, and refused to be buried in a catholic cemetery, although he worshiped his wife. They had no children.

Note: Rhonda Johnson says that there is a common stone for Julia and William in the Sheridan Cemetery, Auburn, Nebraska. It is possible that Julia is really buried in Saint Louis and that the stone in Auburn is just for William and Julia's name on the stone is for memorial purposes.

Note: Julia (age 26) is shown in the 1900 Census living with a Kate Clements (age 47) in Saint Louis, Missouri. Kate was probably Julia's mother. Kate died 15 December 1936 in Saint Louis.

Julia B. Clements was born on 15 May 1874 at Missouri. She married William Milton Broyles, son of Andrew Coffee Broyles and Louisa Ann Eliza Hunt, on 28 November 1900 at St. Louis, St. Louis Co., MO, no children. Julia B. Clements died on 14 April 1912 at Denver, Denver Co., CO, at age 37.
