Clarence Harrison Cookus died on 9 February 1915 at Romney, Hampshire Co., WV, at age 55 Obituary (from findagrave.com Memorial #11808939):

Son of John T. Cookus.

The subject of this appreciation was born in Frederick County, Virgina, August 25, 1859, and departed this life at Romney, W.Va., February 9, 1915. He was the son of John T. And Susan Harrison Cookus. He was educated in the public schools of his native county and at Dayton, Va. He learned the harness trade at Winchester, Va., under old Captain Hardy, but subsequently taught school at Berkeley and Hampshire counties, W.Va. Some twenty-eight or thirty years ago he settled in business in Romney, which he continued until God called him to his blessed reward. he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church when about seventeen years of age and later became a member of the Presbyterian Church, in both of which he rendered valuable service. As a Christian he was intelligent, humble, consecrated and faithful to all the duties of his church, being an example for his large class of young men in the Sunday-school and to the rest of his brethren. As a deacon in the church he was "full of faith and of the Holy Ghost" and filled that difficult office with peculiar ability, his services being invaluable. He was a tender an most considerate husband, a father who made his sons his companions. As a business man and citizen he was eminently upright and honest, his word being as good as his bond. There are few men who are more missed in the home, in the church and in the county and whose life bore a more clear cut testimony to the power of God's grace. He left a devoted wife, two sons, his church......
