Helen Patricia Chaffee Burke, 85, of Madison, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 11, 2010.

She was devoted to her family and was the widow of the late Basil C. Burke Jr. and daughter of the late James Stuart Chaffee and Gertrude Chaffee.

Mrs. Burke was a member of Hebron Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Annette Archibald Burke, Basil C. Burke III, James Stuart Chaffee Burke, E. J. C. Burke and Thomas Mundie Burke II; grandchildren, Chaffee Burke, Margot Burke, Ryan Burke, Daniel Burke, Geoffrey Burke, Gregory Burke, Julia Burke and Eason Burke.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2010, at Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery in Madison conducted by Pastor James Larsen.

Miss Bessie Toops and Mr. Cary J. Chaffin of this city, figured in an elopement Wednesday, slipping down to Newport, Ky., where the knot was tied.

The bride, who is a daughter of Mrs. Mary Toops of Vine street, has been employed in the ladies; tailoring establishment conducted by Mr. Ben Greenblat.

Mr. Chaffin is a son of Mrs. Catherine Chaffin of South Mulberry street. He is a chauffeur in the employ of Mr. F. A. Stacey.

     Dorothy Jean Chaffin was born on 23 July 1949 at Hood River, Hood River Co., OR. She was the daughter of Theodore Raymond Chaffin and Wilma Betty Howard. Dorothy Jean Chaffin married Alfred Lee Mondou Sr., son of William Mondou and Evelyn P. Hoslkinson, on 30 December 1967. Dorothy Jean Mondou, 64, passed away June 24th, 2014 with her family by her side.

She was born July 23, 1949 in Hood River, OR to Theodore Raymond Chaffin and Wilma Betty Howards. On December 30, 1967 she married Fred Mondou. He preceded her in death on September 1997. She was a manager for Dari Mart for 20 years.

Most important to her was her family and church and she spent much of her time sewing quilts, crocheting blankets and other craft projects for the people she loved.

She is survived by her sons David Mondou (Melissa) of Albany, and Fred Mondou of Port Saint Lucie, FL, a daughter Teresa Mondou of Tigard; sisters Pat Riley of Anchorage, Alaska and Shirley Rice of Bremerton, Washington; brothers Maurice Chaffin of Deer Park, WA, Robert Chaffin of Colorado Springs, CO, Joe Chaffin of Carlton, OR and Roland Chaffin of Portland, OR.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, June 28 at Springfield Memorial Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Berean Assembly of God Church. Arrangements entrusted to Springfield Memorial Funeral Home.

Juanita Caroline Chaffin and Glendon David Toops were divorced before April 1940. Juanita Caroline Chaffin married John J. Trombello on 14 May 1943. Juanita Caroline Chaffin married Herchel L.
