Washingtonville - Gloom was cast over the community Thursday morning, February 28, when it was announced that the spirit of Mrs. James E. Weikart had taken its flight. The sad news was not unexpected as she had been in ill health for the past two years. Everything known to medical science was done to save her life but it was in vain and she passed peacefully away at 6:30. She was the daughter of the late John and Harriet Chappell, born May 10, 1858, at Hammondsville, Ohio, making her age nearly 66. She was united in marriage to James C. Weikart, Sept. 3, 1876 (sic). To this union five children were born; Charles H. , Wilbert C., of Leetonia, Clara and Mrs. Fred G. Davis, of this place. Clyde M. preceded her in death June 16, 1906. Mrs. Weikart was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and Sunday School and was a regular attendant until sickness kept her away. She will be missed in the home as a faithful wife, kind and loving mother, always pleasant and agreeable with her neighbors and many friends. Her death is deeply regretted, all feeling they have lost a near and dear friend. She leaves her husband, four children and eight grandchildren; also two sisters, Mrs. David Weikart of this place, Mrs. T. C. Slack, of Pittsburgh and four brothers, I. A. Chappell, of Lorain; George, Richard and Henry Chappell of Salem. Funeral services largely attended were held from the home Saturday at 2 pm, Rev. H. A. Brandt officiating. Her nephews acted as pallbearers including, Harry, Clyde and George Chappell, Jr. Mont Weikart, Clifford Paisley and James Slack. The profusion of beautiful flowers bespoke the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment in Oakland cemetery, Washingtonville.
