JERRY GLEN CHEEK
Jerry Glen Cheek passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2000, in Norman, at the age of 52. He was born
on April 22, 1948, in Santa Monica, California, to John Carl and Betty June (Farrand) Cheek. Although Jerry was
raised in Tulsa, he visited his grandmother, Blanche Cheek, in Holdenville on numerous occasions. Jerry’s mother and sister relate many stories of his growing up and his escapades throughout his high school years. Jerry entered the Army in 1966 and was transferred to Germany. While stationed in Germany, Jerry was
injured and subsequently placed on the permanent disability retired list by the U.S. Army. Jerry spent most of his
life in and out of military hospitals and care facilities, his last year was at the Oklahoma Veteran’s Center in
Norman where he interacted with and was well known by other veterans and staff members. It was said by many
that, "Jerry was Jerry", and he will be missed. Jerry is survived by his mother Betty June Irby of Tulsa; sister, Ann Lewis and her husband, Bill, of Olathe,
Kansas; daughter, Shauna Cheek and her daughter, Brittney, of Tulsa; several cousins, Theo Petete of Oklahoma City; Mary Evelyn Wilson, Lucille Collis, Horace Petete and Spencer Petete all of Holdenville.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2000, at Holdenville Cemetery with
Reverend Meredith Robinson officiating. Interment is under the direction of Hudson Phillips Funeral Home.

John Wesley Cheek married Ivey Blanche Petete, daughter of James Leroy Petete and Nancy Eudora Cockrell, on 1 November 1903 at Houston, Perry Co., AR. John Wesley Cheek died on 3 September 1923 at Phoenix, Maricopa Co., AZ, at age 44. He was buried on 4 September 1923 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, Phoenix, Maricopa Co., AZ.

MRS. ANNA O. RUTLEDGE

The funeral of Mrs. Anna O. Rutledge, 70 years old, who died at St. Luke's Hospital Friday, took place at 8:30 o'clock yesterday morning from the home of her son, Mr. Joseph Rutledge, 2208 Ashland avenue. The body was taken to St. Andrew's Catholic Church, where a requiem high mass was celebrated. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery.

She was buried in March 1911 at Baltimore Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.

Christine VanOrder of Vermont Dies

Mrs. Christine VanOrder, 74, of Vermont, died May 2, 1981, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. Mrs. VanOrder was born May 21, 1906, the daughter of Ezra and Flora Ruby Chenoweth. She married Walter VanOrder on March 28, 1931, in Palmyra, MO. He died Dec. 17, 1976. Surviving are one son, Walter C. of Vermont; one daughter, Mrs. Annabelle Myers of Galesburg; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Wilma Toland and Mrs. Freda Walters, both of Galesburg and Mrs. Pauline Riden of Moline; and two brothers, Melvin of Table Grove and Virgil of Ipava. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary Unit 26 of Vermont. Funeral services are to be held at 2 P.M. this afternoon at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with Rev. Glenn Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery near Table Grove. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Legion Auxiliary Unit 26.

     Willard Webb Chenoweth was born on 12 April 1916 at Greenfield, Greene Co., IL.¹ He was the son of Harry Joseph Chinowth and Woodworth Yost Webb.¹ Willard Webb Chenoweth married Mary Browning, daughter of Ezra E. Browning and Effie Smith, circa 1944. Willard Webb Chenoweth died on 12 January 1998 at Memphis, Shelby Co., TN, at age 81.

     Caroline Cherrington was born on 6 October 1821. She married John Nisewanger Kerr, son of John Kerr Jr. and Christina Niswanger, on 21 August 1846. Caroline Cherrington died on 5 November 1902 at age 81.

     Mary Cherrington was born on 3 October 1828 at Ohio.¹ She married James McCormick Jr., son of James McCormick and Rachel Niswonger, on 2 May 1855.
