Bud Donald Clark, age 79, died April 11, 1990 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mattie S. PARTING TRIBUTE IS PAID TO GRANDMA DEVAULT'S MEMORY

Large Concourse of Sorrowing Friends Attend Funeral, Interment in Bayard Cemetery

The last sad rites for Caroline E. DeVault, better known as Grandma DeVault, were held last Sunday afternoon from the home of C. H. Harpole, a large concourse of sorrowing friends attending the funeral to pay parting tribute to the wonderful old lady who had endeared herself in the hearts of all who knew her.

Caroline E. Clark was born in Montgomery County, Missouri, November 10, 1837, and died Friday, April 27, 1923, aged 85 years, five months and 17 days. She was married to Henry DeVault on December 20, 1860, and to this union were born seven children, five boys and two girls, four of whom have preceeded her to the great beyond. Those who survive are a son, William P. DeVault, and two daughters, Mrs. Emma Harpole and Mary Elizabeth DeVault, all of Bayard.

Grandma, as she was familiarly known, united with the Methodist church shortly after her marriage and lived a beautiful Christian life ever after, being always ready to lend a helping hand or a word of cheer to those in need. She and her family removed from Missouri to Bayard in April, 1901, where they have since resided. Since the death of her husband October 28, 1908, she has made her home with her two daughters, Mrs. Emma Harpole and Mary Elizabeth DeVault, whose loving care and constant solicitude prolonged and brightened the last years of her life, their devotion being a wonderful example of filial love and respect.

Although she has been an invalid for the last five years, she was always patient and loving and was only waiting for the summons to come home and rest. "She knew that in her Father's house there are many dwelling places, and the way she knew for she knew Him who said, 'I am the way'."

The Rev. J. Arthur Miller had charge of the funeral services, the body being laid to rest in Bayard cemetery.

AGED MOTHER DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER

Caroline E. DeVault Passes To Final Reward On April 27th.

Whether death comes in the high or the low, the rich or poor, as a rule, it leaves behind it sorrow and regret, and particularly so the former in the passing of Mrs. Caroline DeVault, which occured at the home of her two daughters, Mrs. C. H. Harpole and Miss Elizabeth DeVault, on last Friday, at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

While advance age and ill health has for some time prevented Mrs. DeVault from taking an active part in the affairs of her home, many people will remember the kindly hospitality, and tender sympathy extended, and the many things that endeared her to those with whom she met.

She, with her two daughters, moved here from Missouri in 1901, being preceded by Will DeVault, who is a resident of this city and by Aylett, who passed away several years ago.

She died -- I shall say without regret and certainly without fear and without complaint. Her life was a steady, reliable light, that did not flame out at times with extraordinary brightness, but in its uniform glow, guided many to the uniform ways of life.

Mrs. DeVault was united with the Methodist church in her early life and remained devout in her belief until the end.

Since 1908 she has resided with her two daughters, following the passing of her husband and for the past five years has been an invalid. Often was the worn body frought with pain, but with it all, she bore her cross meekly, only waiting for the summons to join the loved ones on the other shore, and meet Him on whom her reliance was placed face to face.

Caroline E. DeVault died Friday, April 27th, at 4:30 -- age 85 yrs., 5 mos. & 17 days. She fell on Sunday eve. just as she was ready for bed & broke her hip. She only lived 13 days, went home to be with the ones gone before.

     Charles T. Clark was born in June 1881 at Missouri.¹ He was the son of Charles Taylor Clark and Catherine Agnes Gilmore. Charles T. Clark died on 3 February 1922 at age 40. He was buried on 6 February 1922.

     Charles Taylor Clark was born in February 1849 at Virginia or 1848 per 1900 census.¹ He married Catherine Agnes Gilmore, daughter of Bromfield Gilmore and Mary Abigail Miller. Occupation: City clerk in 1880.² Charles Taylor Clark lived on 9 November 1880 at 1911 Grand Avenue, St. Louis, MO.² Occupation: Newspaper manager in 1900.¹ He lived on 12 June 1900 at 3157 Westminster Place, St. Louis, MO.¹ He died in 1922. He was buried in 1922 at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, St. Louis, MO.

     Charles W. Clark was born circa 1875 at Greene Co., PA, birth certificate of daughter Lillian shows his birth location as Cameron, Marshall County, WV, however 1880 census of Greene County, PA shows him born in Pennsylvania, whie his parents and two oldest brothers were born in WV. He was the son of William H. Clark and Hannah B. Cooper. Charles W. Clark married Frances Etta Wendell, daughter of Andrew Jackson Wendell and Mary Elizabeth Davis, on 3 September 1904 at Greene Co., PA.

     Chester A. Clark was born in September 1889 at Hancock Co., IL.¹ He was the son of Lot Bozarth Clark and Matilda Jane Jackson.¹

     Christiana P. Clark was born on 23 April 1872 at Henderson, Henderson Co., KY. She was the daughter of David D. Clark and Georgina LaNauze. Christiana P. Clark married William Hopkins Stites, son of Richard Stites and Anna Mary Hopkins, circa 1920 at Henderson Co., KY. Christiana P. Clark died on 29 July 1936 at Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY, at age 64. She was buried in August 1936 at Fernwood Cemetery, Henderson, Henderson Co., KY, Findagrave #81999841.

1914 - 2000

Clara Mae Tallman, age 85, of Anamosa, died Thursday,May 4,2000 at Manor Care Health Services in Davenport after a lengthy illness.

Graveside funeral services were held 10:30 Monday morning, May 8 at Green Center Cemetery at Morley. The Rev. Billy Duay officiated at the service.

Clara was born August 23, 1914 at Viola. She was the daughter of Seymour and Ruth Anderson Clark. She married John Tallman September 22, 1950 at the First Baptist Church in Anamosa. After raising five children and losing a husband, Clara learned to drive a car and went back to finish high school. She got her diploma at age 63 and earned some college credits. She wrote poetry and some was published.

She rejoined the work force after being a farm wife for 22 years. She loved to learn and to use her mind. She was a strong, intelligent, compassionate and loving woman. She will be missed deeply.

She is survived by one son, Wilbur Tallman of Grand Rapids, MN; four daughters, Charlene Ellison, Shirley Grassfield and Lisa Tallman, all of Anamosa and Frances Appleby of Marion; three sisters, Mary Renken of Anamosa, Ruth Rowe of Deer River, MN and Ada Hill of Alexander, LA; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one daughter, Nancy Tallman; four brothers, Louis, John, Seymour and Vernon and one sister, Viola Clark.

The Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

She was buried in May 2000 at Green Center Cemetery, Morley, Jones Co., IA, Findagrave #55913858.

     Cornelia Clark was born circa 1840. She married David Green, son of William Green and Rebecca McBride, on 28 August 1860. Cornelia Clark died on 6 February 1873 at Nebraska.

     Cornelius Wellington Clark was born on 23 May 1808 at Burke Co., NC. He was the son of Jeremiah Clark and Eleanor Boone. Cornelius Wellington Clark died on 8 August 1878 at age 70.

     Daisy A. Clark was born in March 1885 at Ohio.¹ She was the daughter of William H. Clark and Mary E. Cline.¹ Daisy A. Clark married Edward Hollister, son of John Hollister and Maria E. Evans, on 26 February 1903 at Newport, Campbell Co., KY. Daisy A. Clark lived on 18 April 1910 at 63 Mill Street, Newark, Licking Co., OH.²

     David D. Clark was born on 22 September 1825 at Scotland. He married Georgina LaNauze. David D. Clark died on 27 February 1900 at age 74. He was buried in March 1900 at Fernwood Cemetery, Henderson, Henderson Co., KY, Findagrave #83630431.

     Della H. Clark was born on 7 May 1891.¹ She was the daughter of L. M. Clark and Sarah E. (?) Della H. Clark married Joseph Montgomery Gelwix, son of George W. Gelwix and Laura F. Coffman, on 16 September 1917. Della H. Clark died in February 1989 at Thayer, Neosho Co., KS, at age 97.²

     Donald Earl Clark was born in May 1890 at Nebraska.¹ He was the son of Fieldon Clark and Mary Ann (?)¹ Donald Earl Clark married Florence E. (?) circa 1916.²

     Drusilla Clark was born circa 1814 at Ohio.¹ She married Joseph Campbell.

     Earl Timothy Clark was born on 28 June 1899 at Auburn, Nemaha Co., NE; son of Samuel Adam and Almaretta Jane (Allgood) Clark of Nemaha County, Nebraska. He married Mary Elizabeth Wigger, daughter of John T. Wigger and Emma Hasty, on 10 June 1929 at Breckenridge, Caldwell Co., MO. Earl Timothy Clark died on 28 February 1952 at Nebraska at age 52. He was buried in March 1952 at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Brownville, Nemaha Co., NE, Findagrave #118632557.

     Eleanor Elizabeth Clark was born on 22 June 1900 at Medina, Medina Co., OH. She was the daughter of Porter Oviatt Clark and Alicia Witter. Eleanor Elizabeth Clark married Roy Ezra Culver, son of John G. Culver and Mary Ann Burgderfer, on 17 October 1925. Eleanor Elizabeth Clark died on 6 February 1992 at Medina, Medina Co., OH, at age 91.

     Elizabeth Clark married George Starr, son of Jeremiah Starr and Margaret Hayes. Elizabeth Clark died on 12 January 1832.

     Elizabeth Clark was born circa 1866 at Indiana.¹ She married Lewis A. Hardman, son of Lorenzo D. Hardman and Delia Jane Keller, on 2 September 1909 at Madison Co., IN, no children.

     Elizabeth Jane Clark was born on 15 April 1826 at Tennessee.¹ She married Jacob DeVault, son of Valentine DeWald and Susannah Range, on 9 May 1844 at Washington Co., TN. Elizabeth Jane Clark died on 4 October 1879 at Washington Co., TN, at age 53.² She was buried in October 1879 at DeVault Cemetery, DeVault's Ford, Washington Co., TN.
