Obituary of Mrs. Eudora Petete:
Eudora Petete departed this life January 15, 1909, five miles southwest of Holdenville, Okla. She was born in
Pickens County, Ala., Aug. 9, 1861. Her maiden name was Eudora Cockrell. She professed religion at the age of
18 and united with the Missionary Baptist Church, with which she remained a member until her death. On the 5th of December, 1882, she was married to Bro. J.L. Petete who still survives her. Of this union there were born ten children, four girls and six boys, all of whom live in the immediate neighborhood of Holdenville. Sister Petete was a devoted Christian , a tender, loving mother and an affectionate and faithful wife. Her life
was full of sunshine and cheerfulness, she always had a kind word for everyone and seemed to delight in making others happy. Her death was sudden, caused by heart failure. This gave no opportunity to impart any dying counsel to her dear bereft husband and children. Her earthly sun sank at noon, but her life doubtless went out like the morning star--in the light of day. We will say to the bereft family, it is hard to give up one so dear, but such is this life. While death comes as the wages of sin, yet we learn that it was once appointed unto man to die, hence it comes by appointment, and by him who doeth all things well. We can only bow in humble submission and pray
thy will be done. Many who knew her are dropping the sympathetic tear and sending up earnest prayers for the bereaved family. Be sure to be ready to meet her in the great beyond.
A Friend.
