Charles Elmer Cooley was born on 25 April 1871 at Clark Co., IN.1 He was the son of Alonzo C. Cooley and Nancy Melissa Jackson.1 Charles Elmer Cooley married Emma Hannah Money, daughter of Edward Money and Permelia Cotton, on 5 February 1893 at Clark Co., IN, seven children born, five living as of 1910 census.
Note: It was reported that Charles deserted the family and was in the Army during World War I. However, he would have been 46 in April, 1917 -- the Army had little interest in recruits of that age. There is no WWI draft registration record in ancestry.com's online database of draft registration records.
In the 1920 census Emma is listed as a widow. However, Charles may have actually abandoned the family. When Charles' father died (1925), his obituary said that Charles' whereabouts were unknown. Sometime before 1930, Emma remarried to John B. Wilkinson.[:CR]

NEW ALBANY - Martin, Emma Jean (Cooley), 86, died September 2, 2011.
Emma Jean Cooley was born July 10, 1925 in New Albany. As a child she went to school at Silver Street Elementary and at junior high at the old Peoples College on Spring St. I, William M Martin, met Emma Jean in chorus at New Albany High School, in January of 1941 when I was the new kid in school after transferring from Lebanon, IN. Though I had very few dates in school, after graduation in 1943, I finally asked a girl for date, Emma Jean Cooley. She said yes and we have been together ever since. In those uncertain war years I was in the Army Air Corps and Emma Jean was working in the war effort at the Charlestown Powder Plant lab. After the war we were married in January of 1946, where we lived on Williams Air Field near Phoenix, AZ for a short time. Our first two children were born in Lafayette, IN. I was a student at Purdue and worked for the outdoor Maintenance Dept., while Emma Jean worked in the English Dept. In 1950 we bought a house in Clarksville and eventually added our last two children another daughter and a son, which completed our family. Now, 62 years later, after making Clarksville our home we have lost a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Emma Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Wimp Cooley and James Edward Cooley; her brother James Cooley; her sisters Annetta Reinhart and Janet Kremer; her cousins Junior, Ray, Jack and Richard Cooley.
Emma Jean is survived by her husband of 65 years, William Martin; children, Micki Sellmer (Randy), Jacki Kincaid, Kit Rager (Larry) and Bill Martin (Shawn); grandchildren, Jeffrey Dempsey, Chris Dempsey, Lance Rager, Kara O'Neil, Nick Kincaid, Elise Stephens, Kyle Rager, Katie Kincaid, Martin Sellmer, KLeigh Sellmer, Jaxon Martin, Sawyer Martin and great-grandchildren, Tristan Sellmer, Wyatt Dempsey, Wasin Dempsey, Aschiwat Dempsey, Jacob Rager, Olivia Rager, Caia Rager and Seamus O'Neil.
As a teenager Emma Jean was a great roller skater. As a young woman we enjoyed square dancing for many years. We hiked and camped traveling from Yucatan to the Arctic Circle. Many of those adventures included the Great Smoky Mountains, the Grand Canyon and the entire Appalachian Trail. We bicycled all over Indiana and in 1992 biked from Wenatchee, Washington to Yorktown, VA. Even though we enjoyed a full life and many adventures together, it is still hard to lose her.
Visitation will be at Kraft Funeral Home 708 E. Spring St., New Albany, on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. Service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Kraft Funeral Home.

George Franklin Cooley
M, b. 29 September 1909, d. 29 June 1965
George Franklin Cooley was born on 29 September 1909 at New Albany, Floyd Co. (probably), IN. He was the son of Charles Elmer Cooley and Emma Hannah Money. George Franklin Cooley married Ruby Marie Boes; Ruby remarried to Thomas R. Story in 1965 but was buried using the Cooley surname.1 George Franklin Cooley died on 29 June 1965 at Hillsboro, Highland Co., OH, at age 55. Cause of death: The Press-Gazette; Hillsboro, Ohio; Friday, June 25, 1965; Page 2 (Newspapers.com):
Trucker Burned in Crash; 42 New Refrigerators Damaged
An Indiana truck driver suffered severe burns when his tractor-trailer outfit, loaded with 42 brand-new General Electric refrigerators overturned and caught fire early Thursday.
Scene of the highway mishap was on U.S. Rt. 62 just a mile south of New Market on a double curve where accidents usually happen on that particular road. The crash occurred about 3 A.M. The driver, confined at Highland District Hospital where he was brought by Hope Miller ambulance, was identified as George Franklin Cooley, 55, of New Albany, Ind. He suffered burns about the feet, chest, arms and face. He also had considerable shock, according to officers.
Cooley was northbound in his semi when his exhaust possibly burned out his brake cables, according to initial theories on the mishap. The driver was unable to provide any coherent details immediately.
Anyway, the truck went wide on the south part of the S-curve, swung off the west side of the highway and then back onto the pavement and overturned, skidding down the road for about 50 yards.
The cab flamed up and spread to the trailer, an aluminum covered unit. The refrigerators were in cardboard cartons and all caught fire.
Photo Caption: FIREMAN TOM STEPHENS puts a final stream of water on the interior of the truck. The severely burned cab over the overturned tractor-trailer outfit is at the left. The driver was burned severly before he could get out of the cab.
HILLSBORO FIREMEN got a call to the scene at 3:10 A.M. They succeeded in extinguishing the blaze after a brief fight but at least half of the refrigerators were destroyed by fire and the others had some fire and heat damage and other damage from the crash itself.
The entire cab of the vehicle was burned. This part of the blaze was apparently fed by gasoline since it had drained across the road, flames following this to the guard railing on the west side. The truck is owned by the Wardlow Interstate Trucking Company. It was enroute from Louisville, Ky., to Johnstown, Pa.
Haley wrecker answered a call to the scene. The trailer part was righted and some of the refrigerators were reloaded on it. Traffic was slowed but not fully blocked. The truck upset in the northbound lane of traffic.
Deputy Sheriff Carl Ayres investigated the accident.
The truck driver's socks were virtually burnt off, along with his shirt. The driver arrived at Highland District Hospital at 3:53 A.M. Hillsboro police stated that the hospital staff declined to call a physician unless a request for a specific physician was made by the accident victim. Police said, in view of a report from the scene that the driver appeared to be in shock and in critical condition, that they personally contacted a physician and he arrived at the hospital shortly after the ambulance did.
He was buried in July 1965 at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany, Floyd Co., IN, Findagrave #166786993.
