Thomas Eugene Ferree was born on 5 September 1961. He died on 15 February 1976 at Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL, at age 14. Cause of death: From e-mail message from Lucinda Ferree to Don Boyd, 9 MAR 2020:

"My brother Tommy died February 15th that year...he was 14. He was killed by a police officer in Springfield after he broke into a business and set off a silent alarm. The officer involved shot him while he was running away from the scene. The shooting, and Tommy's death, were determined "justifiable homicide". There was a tremendous amount of news coverage as far away as Chicago news sources...that I knew of at the time. Such shootings, particularly of young white boys, wasn't common at that time. The ACLU was involved, and wanted to fight the court ruling, but my parents decided not to do so."
