Note: (PA FAMILIES, p. 21) John was residing near Jacob Huber's furnace in 1755 and was taxed the following year in the same township of Warwick. He became, in 1755, with Jacob Stauffer, of Warwick, a tenant-in-common to 269 acres of land acquired from Jacob and Magdalena Huber. According to the Brubacher Genealogy, they "settled in 'Gruben Land', thence two miles east of Mount Hope, which they bought of a man by the name of Lentz." This is verified by Deed Book 3 p. 436, which shows that John Stauffer acquired 197 acres in Warwick and Rapho Townships from Christian Lentz on May 3, 1775, the day he disposed of his half of the tract originally obtained from the Hubers.
