Obit:
Mrs. M.A. McAndrew, one of the most beloved women of Shelby County died at her home near Trowbridge, Illinois, Wednesday, March 8, 1899. Age 61. Buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery on Thursday, the services being conducted by Rev. Father Murphy.
Mrs. Malanda McAndrew was born June 4, 1839 in Sullivan County, Indiana. She came to Shelby County, Illinois in 1844, with her parents who settled on the Godfrey Doll place. She was married in 1854 to Patrick McAndrew, and moved to the old homestead. Her husband died September 16, 1869, leaving her with six children, four girls and two boys to care for, the youngest child five months old, but by her careful management she provided for all and lived to see them settled in homes of their own. She often boasted of being proud of her children. She was a loving mother and sister and a kind neighbor. No one out of employment or a home ever came to her and sought refuge without obtaining relief. She was a mother to all. Not even a beggar was turned away by her, without aid. But now she is among us no more. She is gone, but not forgotten, leaving behind her an untarnished name, and the memory of a Christian life.
She leaves one brother, P.C. Abercrombie and one sister, Mrs. Bess Kinnison, of David City, Nebraska whom she visited last fall, three daughters, Mrs. Henry McClory (Mary Henneberry's and Rita Deter's grandmother), Mrs. Bernard Wilson (Chuck's grandmother) and Mrs. Edward Moran, two sons, John and Peter and several grandchildren, besides many othe relatives and friends, to mourn her loss. Her eldest daughter, Mrs. Edward McClory, preceded her to the other world nearly nine years ago, leaving four children in her mother's care and for whom she toiled the same as if they were her own.
