SAMUEL SHANK, a well known resident of Quincy, died at his home there at 6 o'clock, Wednesday evening of acute pneumonia, aged 56 years, 1 month and 16 days.
Samuel Shank was the son of the late Samuel C. Shank and Rachel (Fox) Shank and was born and raised in Franklin county.
Surviving is his widow, one son and two daughters.
Funeral services were held at Hades church, Saturday morning. Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

HUBERT M. SOCKS, SR., 78, of Rt. 2. died Saturday at the Waynesboro Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Montgomery Township, Franklin County, he was the son of the late John and Rachael Socks.
He was a farmer in the Five Forks area. Prior to his retirement in 1962, he drove buses for the Quincy School district for 31 years.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Raymond Gift of Rt. 1, Mercersburg, Mrs. Chester Baer of Rt. 2, Waynesboro, and Mrs. Charles Freeman of Zullinger; one son, Hubert M. Socks, Jr. of Rt. 2, Waynesboro; and five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services were held today at 10:30 a.m. at the Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The Rev. J. Ralph Wenger officiated.
Burial was made in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

Mae Socks Gift, 91, formerly of 3738 Mercersburg Road, Mercersburg, PA died at 12:46 a.m. October 24, 2008 in Providence Place of Chambersburg, PA.
Born February 17, 1917 near Waynesboro, PA she was a daughter of the late Hubert, Sr. and Carrie Shank Socks.
She was a graduate of the former Quincy High School, Quincy, PA.
Mrs. Gift was employed for 35 years at the former Stanley Company of Chambersburg.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Lemasters, PA.
Her husband, Raymond R. Gift, died February 1, 1998.
Surviving are a brother, Hubert Socks, Jr. of Waynesboro, and one niece and four nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Baer and Helen Freeman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. October 27th in St. Paul's UCC of Lemasters with Reverend Robert Mentzer officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters.
Viewing 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg and one hour prior to the services Monday in the church.

MR. HUBERT M. SOCKS, JR., 89, of 8946 Stottlemyer Rd., Waynesboro, PA died at 4:20 A.M., Friday, July 22, 2011 in Quincy Village.
Born February 18, 1922 in Five Forks, PA, son of the late Hubert M. Socks, Sr. and Carrie (Shank) Socks. He spent his early life in the Five Forks area.
Mr. Socks graduated with the 1940 class of Quincy High School and later served in the U.S. Army, 78th Infantry Division, during World War II in the European Theater.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Verda Mattie (Hoover) Socks on November 16, 1979. They were married in 1946.
He and his second wife, Dorothy C. (Carbaugh) Stottlemyer Socks were married on October 8, 1983 in Blue Ridge Summit. They resided at their current home since 1983.
Mr. Socks was self-employed as a farmer until 1968 when he began work at the former Blue Ridge Fruit Exchange, which later became Agway, Waynesboro. He worked as a truck driver and warehouse worker until he retired in 1996. Mr. Socks also a school bus for the Waynesboro School District from 1961 to 1981.
He enjoyed golfing and time spent with his family and friends.
Mr. Socks was a member of Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on the cemetery committee, candy making committee and as a greeter. He was also a member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post #695.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, he is survived by two sons: Vernon C. Socks and his wife Barbara, Waynesboro, Larry E. Socks and his wife Gloria, Waynesboro; two grandsons: Christopher W. Socks and his wife Karen, Waynesboro, Eric L. Socks and his wife Deb, Waynesboro; a granddaughter: Heather L. Pauley and her husband Jerry, Virginia; great grandsons: Andrew Witmer, Aaron Witmer; great granddaughter: Andrea Witmer; great great granddaughter, Peyton Cook; three step-sons: Larry Stottlemyer and his wife Noreen, Waynesboro, Gerald Stottlemyer, Shippensburg, PA, David Stottlemyer and his wife Linda, Chambersburg; step-daughter: Barbara Chandler and her husband Larry, Waynesboro; and 36 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he is preceded in death by three sisters: Mae G. Gift, Pearl Baer and Helen Freeman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday in Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4856 Wayne Rd., Chambersburg, PA with The Rev. Bill Nienstedt officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Sunday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro.
