James E. Doelling Sr., 84, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at his residence. Born Sept. 12, 1919, in Fort Wayne, he owned Systems Engineering & Sales Co., Inc. for 21 years, retiring in 1982. He was an Army veteran and member of North Christian Church, the American Legion, F.&.M. Lodge, Mizpah Shrine, Scottish Rite and Coliseum Lions Club. Surviving are a son James E. Doelling Jr. of Huntington; a daughter, C.B. Baker of Fort Wayne; a brother, Gustav H. Doelling of Odessa, Texas; two sisters Cathrine Whiteman of Ossian and Mary Scheumann of Monroeville; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his first wife, Susie Mae Nutter, his second wife, Grace Rowe, and his parents, Gustav Herman and Margaret Doelling. Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, with calling one hour prior, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St. The Rev. John L. Vickrey will officiate. Visitation is from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Military graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Preferred memorials to American Heart Association, First Christian Church or Cancer Services of Allen County.
