Dalton R. Long
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Ross Henderson Funeral Home for Dalton R. (Jack) Long, 69, who lived at Licking County Historical Society Museum, Sixth Street, Park, where he was caretaker.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Forest Cemetery, Fredericktown.
Mr. Long died this morning in Licking County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for one week.
He was born Jan. 23, 1899 in Cumberland to Lewis and Ada Long.
A resident of Newark since 1920, he was former bailiff for Newark Municipal Court and probation officer and bailiff for Common Pleas Court from 1952 to 1963. He had also worked for the Pharis Tire and Rubber Co. until 1948.
A veteran of World War I and World War II, he served in France with the First Division from 1917 to 1919, and enlisted in World War II serving for seven months with the 304th Ordinance Batallion (sic). He received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the American Legion, past commander Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1060 and a member of United Commercial Travelers.
Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Robert Mayer of Cleveland, Mrs. Jack Fulton of Bluffton, Ind.; two brothers: Myron O. of Dayton and Kenneth of Fredericktown; four sisters: Mrs. George Streby of Fredericktown, Mrs. Faye Lane of Westminister (sic), Calif., Mrs. Frank Ault of Ventura, Calif., and Mrs. Donald Masteller of Adrian, Mich. and four grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Ross Henderson Funeral Home.
WW I service, enlisted, U.S. Army, First Division, Ambulance Co. No. 13, overseas service in France, discharged 13 APR 1919.
WW II service, U.S. Army, 304 Ordnance Btn., Silver Star, Purple Heart.
