Obituary:
Lavina Helen (Varble) Henson, 78, went to be with the Lord at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Jerseyville Manor.
Born Aug. 28, 1931, in Carrollton, she was one of 11 children of Reuben and Lena (Tillery) Varble. She had lived and worked in the Alton area most of her adult life, employed by the Wedge Bank for 34 years.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon Henson, whom she married Aug. 20, 1961, in Wood River. Also surviving are a son, Dan Frank of Pontoon Beach; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Roland Burger of Wayne City, Ill., and Hazel and Robert Behr of Alton; two sisters-in-law, Deloris Geldbach of Crete, Ill., and Hazel Varble of Kane; a brother-in-law, William Decker of Carrollton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Earl, Harold, Ray and Clayton Varble and two infants; and two sisters, Juanita Wells and Linda Decker.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 8, at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights with a memorial service at 7 p.m. The Rev. Dan Smith will officiate.
