Obituary from Cedar Rapids Republican Monday July 25, 1904:
George W. Floyd was born in Clinton County, Ohio, September 24, 1826 and was married to Miss Lucinda Beard in the spring of 1854, shortly after which they moved to Iowa, locating in Marion, where his wife died on January 13th, 1889, at the age of seventy years. Of this union four children were born, two of whom died in infancy, Mrs. Charles F. Russell and Mr. Amos A. Floyd of Davenport being the only surviving members of this family. After the death of his wife, Mr. Floyd made his home with his son and continued to live in the old homestead on east 5th avenue in this city until last spring when he moved with the family to Davenport. A few weeks ago he went to Cedar Rapids to visit his daughter, where he was taken sick and died last Tuesday evening. Mr. Floyd was a man of sterling qualities, a kind and loving husband and father and was highly respected by all who knew him. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church in this city Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. conducted by the pastor, Rev. T. M. Evans. The floral offerings were numberous and beautiful, manifesting the universal esteen in which he was held by his neighbors and friends. The music for the occasion was furnished by a quartet, composed of Mrs. V. G. Shumack, Miss Blanch Kerr, H. A. Sutherland and J. E. Bromwell. The pallbearers were Martin Evans of Cedar Rapids, and Messrs G. L. Snyder, W. N. Burns, J. W. Bowman, F. L. Northrop and A. W. Hutchinson of this city. The remains were taken to Oak Shade cemetery where they were buried beside those of his wife and children. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of a large circle of neighbors and friends.
