JOSEPH WESLEY MURPHY was born in Kenova, Arkansas. He attended school in Louisiana, graduating from Centenary College and doing graduate work at Emory University. Joe was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa. His survived by his wife, Connie, daughters, Jane Anne Wallace and husband Stephen, Nancy Catherine Windrum and husband Bart, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Joe entered the U.S. Navy as an ensign and retired as Lt. Commander. Joe was also a Shell Oil Retiree. As an Episcopalian, Joe served as a vestryman and lay reader at various times. Joe had a great love of nature and enjoyed hunting and fishing at his second home in the mountains of New Mexico. A memorial service will be held at Ascension Episcopal Church, 2525 Seagler Rd, 713-781-1330, on Monday, January 30, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Ascension Episcopal Church or the Salvation Army.
