DEERFIELD: Glenn Ivan Furgason, 77, of Deerfield, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian. He was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of Bernard and Lila (Suydam) Furgason. On Aug. 4, 1945, he was married to Deloris Manthey at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palmyra, Mich. Glenn was a veteran of the United States Army and had served in World War II. He owned and operated the Deerfield Mobil Gas Station from 1954 until 1972. He then went to work for the Deerfield Co-Op Association, where he drove truck and remained there until he retired in 1990. Glenn enjoyed reading, spending winters in Florida, working on engines and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris of Deerfield; his children, Dian (Raymond) Gallatin of Howell, Mich., Carol (Monty) Love of Deerfield, Marcia (Mike) Gilson of Deerfield and Elaine (Tom) Korican of Tecumseh; grandchildren Conrad Cannon of Saline, Chad Gallatin of Brighton, Mich., Rachelle Gallatin of Howell, Mich., Amanda Gudorf of South Bend, Ind., Cory Cote of Tecumseh, Mich., and Luke Cannon, Glory Nighswander, Benjamin Gilson and Colbi Cousino, all of Deerfield, Mich.; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Verna Rowe of Pioneer, Ohio, Vivian Woods of Leesburg, Fla., Mary Cox of Jacksonville, Fla., Josephine Ross of Manchester, Mich., Shirley Schadewald of Tecumseh and Ruth Greenman of Adrian and two brothers, Gaylon "Dick" Furgason of Britton and John "Bill" Furgason of Blissfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harold, Gordon and Ernest Furgason.
Funeral services for Glenn will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palmyra with the Rev. Gary Leking officiating. Burial will follow in Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield. Friends may call at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield on Sunday from 2-9 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund, Deerfield Fire Dept. or to a charity of the donor's choice. BRITTON -- Gaylon Duane Furgason, 77, of Britton died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Herrick Manor. He was born in Tecumseh on June 7, 1927, the son of Bernard and Lila (Matthews) Furgason. On Oct. 22, 1949, he was married to Clara Fick in Adrian and she survives. Gaylon was employed at Tecumseh Products for 42 years prior to retiring. He was also engaged in farming. He enjoyed winters in Florida, camping, dancing, playing cards, golf, and spending time with his family. Gaylon served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Gaylon is survived by two sons, Roger (Mary) Furgason of Britton and James (Marjorie) Furgason of Tecumseh; one daughter, Sandra (Jim) DeBerry of Orange City, Fla.; one brother, John "Bill" Furgason of Blissfield; six sisters, Verna (Walter) Rowe of Pioneer, Ohio, Vivian Woods of Leesburg, Fla., Mary (Elton) Cox of Jacksonville, Fla., Josephine (Tom) Ross of Manchester, Mich., Shirley (Stanley) Schadewald of Tecumseh and Ruth Greenman of Adrian; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Furgason of Ypsilanti and Nancy Furgason of Britton. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Couture-Handler Funeral Homes from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Ridge Highway in Britton with Pastor James Balzer officiating. Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Tecumseh. LEESBURG, Fla. Vivian M. Woods, age 82, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Tecumseh, died Feb. 19, 2011, in Florida. She was born Dec. 30, 1928, in Clinton Township to Bernard L. and Lila I. (Matthews) Furgason. On Aug. 28, 1948, she married Wendell C. Woods. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1999. She had been employed by Tecumseh Products for 35 years and then by Boysville of Michigan for 11 years, retiring on Dec. 30, 1993. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Leesburg, and very involved in her community, Highland Lakes. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and bingo. Shirley Ann (Furgason) Schadewald, 78, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Blissfield Place.
She was born on June 29, 1941 in Tecumseh to Bernard L. & Lila I. (Matthews) Furgason. She attended Tecumseh Schools before graduating from Deerfield High School in 1959. On October 10, 1959 she was united in marriage to Stanley R. Schadewald and they celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing on December 18, 2017.
Along with being a homemaker, Shirley worked at various places including Kapnick Orchards before retiring from Peerless Gear in Clinton. She was very creative and spent a lot of her spare time painting ceramics and playing Bunco before a series of strokes took her ability away in the late 1990s. After that time, she enjoyed accompanying her husband to many classic car shows to display the many vehicles he restored including her Dodge “Little Red Express” truck.
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Susan (Dale) Southard of Blissfield, Debra (Rodger) Gallaway of Deerfield, and a son, David (Tammy) Schadewald of Lima, Ohio. Brother, John W. “Bill” Furgason of Blissfield and sister, Josephine “Jody” Ross of Tecumseh. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Edward, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
Visitation hours for Shirley will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield. Stanley R. Schadewald, age 78, of Tecumseh, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti, MI surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Adrian on July 26, 1939, the son of William and Mary (Hegy) Schadewald. On October 10, 1959, he married Shirley A. Furgason at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palmyra and she survives.
Stanley graduated from Deerfield High School with the Class of 1957. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957-1959.
He was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tecumseh. Stanley had a passion for restoring classic “pickup trucks” and he worked as a farmer. In 2004 he retired from GM Powertrain in Toledo, where he was a machine repairman. Stanley was an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving in addition of his wife, Shirley are two daughters, Sue (Dale) Southard of Blissfield, Debra (Rodger) Gallaway of Deerfield; a son, David (Tammy) Schadewald of Lima, OH; two brothers, Norm Schadewald of Blissfield, Charles Schadewald of Adrian; two sisters, Maybelle (Gayln) Berry of Blissfield, Donna Case of Adrian; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Edward, two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Services for Stanley, will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 11 AM at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield with Pastor Philip Krieger officiating.
