Biography

Clara Belle Hoy was born in May 1875 in Ohio Although her name and birth year do not line up perfectly, I believe she was a daughter of William and Letitia Hoy, who are listed in the 1900 census, Union Twp., Fayette County, and in the 1880 census, Jefferson Twp., Ross County, Ohio. In 1880 (June) there were two daughters listed, ages 6 and 4. William was indeed born in Virginia and Letitia in Ohio, as Clara Belle indicated in later censuses, and there were no other Hoy families in the Fayette County vicinity. DLB 2015.1 She married Werter E. Reynolds, son of Randall B. Reynolds and Kitturah Coil, about 1898, A child was lost prior to the 1900 census, which incorrectly shows it was living. The 1910 census is clear that two children had been born and only one (Ruth) was living at that time. DLB 2015.1,2 Clara Belle Hoy died on 24 June 1967 in Fayette Co., OH.

Delmer was born 2 years later on 15 OCT 1935. Pearlie was living with Jack Kent as of the April 1940 census but didn't marry him until 1941. It seems most likely that Delmer was the biological son of Stirley Land, although Jack Kent may have been the only father he ever knew. DLB 2021. He died on 20 December 1951. He was buried in December 1951 in Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Montezuma Co., CO, Findagrave #57368537.
Jack Kent lived on 1 April 1935 in Flagstaff, Coconino Co., AZ.1 He lived on 18 April 1940 in Vaughn, Guadalupe Co., NM.1

Graveside services for Pearlie Mae Marcotte will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Lebanon Cemetery.

Visitation has been set for Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel.

Pearlie was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Tucker, Okla., the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Margarette Sarah (Smith) Gray. She passed away Monday, June 25, 2007, at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. She had spent the past seven years at Vista Mesa Assisted Living in their loving care.

Pearlie loved children and cared for many children in the area in her own home. She was an avid gardener, enjoying the flowers and vegetables that she produced. She loved embroidery, quilting, crafts, cooking and passing her skills on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many will remember her from running the laundry in Dolores, taking care of their clothes as her own.

Surviving Pearlie are her sons, Jackie Joe Kent and wife Eunice, and Herbert Keith Kent and wife Betty; her daughters, Thelma Ann Newby and husband Johnny, and Pearlie Mae Chadwick and husband Mike; and her daughter-in-law, Gloria Kent. Eighteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren also survive her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Jack Kent and Henry Marcotte; son Delmer Lee Kent; daughter Elizabeth Jane Norris; her siblings, Lena Gray-Hebblethwaith, Herbert Roy Gray and Ruby Belle Gray-Hartman; and grandson Rodney Kent.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Pearlie Marcotte with the Alzheimer's Association, 701 Camino Del Rio, Ste. 115 A, Durango, CO 81301.
