John William "Bill" Squibb, 85, Jonesborough, born June 2, 1928, entered into rest on September 25, 2013, at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Washington County, Mr. Squibb lived in the Sulphur Springs Community on the Squibb Family Farm his entire life. He was the eldest child of the late William Hal and Verna Maude Sherfey Squibb. He was salutatorian of the Class of 1946 at Sulphur Springs School. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent at the young age of eighteen and served as Chairperson of the Administrative Board for over 35 years. He also served as a Sunday school teacher for most of his adult life. In addition, Bill served as a song leader, choir member, and member of various other committees in his beloved church. His wonderful church family held a dear and special place in his heart. Bill loved baseball and played many years as both a teen and an adult. He loved coaching community youth baseball teams and watching his beloved New York Yankees. In his later years, Bill especially enjoyed "loafing" and playing rook with his cronies at Benny Massengill's Food Shop in Sulphur Springs. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Lauri Jo Cranford and Rev. Zach Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service. Interment services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, at Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Friends are requested to meet at the church at 10:45 a.m. Monday. Pallbearers will include: Billy Squibb, Andrew Bird, Christopher Winkle, Ricky Maupin, Henry Walker, Bruce Bacon, Joe Bacon and Dale Sanders. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church Men's Sunday School Class and his cronies at Benny's Food Shop in Sulphur Springs. Officiating Clergy will be Reverend Lauri Jo Cranford and Reverend Zach Smith.

Robert J. White, age 93, of Route 4, Jonesboro died March 24th at Colonial Hill Nursing Home following an illness of six weeks.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Miller White in 1930 and was a son of the late Alfred and Rebecca Bowman White. Mr. White was a member of First Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Farnsworth, Johnson City, Mrs. Grace Shull, Quito, Ecuador, and Mrs. Elsie Garwood, Clifton Forge, Va.; one son Rev. Paul R. White, Somerset, Pa; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bowman, Maitland, Fla., Mrs. Laura Butterbaugh, Sebring, Fla, and Pauline White, Boones Creek; one brother, John White, Sebring; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday from the First Church of the Brethren and interment in the Boones Creek Church of the Brethren cemetery.
