Gerald "Jerry" Lura, 78, of Marshalltown, died early Monday morning, April 25th, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 29th, at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown with Rev. Dale Batchler officiating.
Born Gerald Gordon Lura on November 30, 1932, at McCallsburg, Iowa, he was the son of Harold and Lucille (Druse) Lura. He graduated from the Nevada High School's Class of 1951. Jerry served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956. He was in the Ft. Bragg 82nd Airborne Division.
On June 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Darlene Kelderhouse at the Little Brown Church. They made their home in Marshalltown where he was employed for 44 years at the Iowa DOT as a project road inspector. Mr. Lura was proud of his Norwegian heritage and its food. He was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, family trips and watching the squirrels in the backyard. He also enjoyed WWII movies, John Wayne Movies, loved to sing and sang in the church choir and treasured his family.
Left to cherish his memory are Darlene, his loving wife of 52 years, his children: Pam (Darrel) Osborne of Keosauqua, Iowa, Kevin Lura of Marshalltown and LuAnn Lura of Marshalltown, his dear grandchildren- Krystal (Chad) Ewing of Bowen, IL., Kyle Osborne, Kelly Osborne and Kathryn Osborne all of Keosauqua, Thomas Lura and Colin Lura both of Marshalltown and baby Ewing on the way. Also surviving are his sisters- Geraldine Arnold of Northwood, Iowa and Lorene Anderson of Story City, Iowa.
Funeral services for Gerald "Jerry" Lura, 78, of Marshalltown, were held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown with Reverend Dale Batchler officiating.
He was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post # 839. Pallbearers were Dean Schuler, Kyle Osborne, Kelly Osborne, Kurt Brennecke, Steve Arnold, Chad Ewing, Brian Arnold and Gordon Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers were Krystal Ewing, Kathryn Osborne, Thomas Lura and Colin Lura.
Groups from the First United Methodist Church, Rogers School and the Iowa DOT were in attendance.

Warren O. Miessen 83, of Indianapolis, peacefully passed away June 20, 2010. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, he graduated from Warren Central HS and served his country in the Navy during WWII. He attended classes at Purdue and retired as Environmental Director of the Marion County Health Center in 1992. He was previously employed with Reliance Electric, and Buehler Corp. Warren enjoyed bowling water skiing, playing cards and computer games. He was a member of American Legion Post #34.
Warren was preceded in death by both his parents, his loving wife of 62 years, Eileen Miessen; son, Michael D. Miessen and brother, Frederick T. Miessen. He is survived by a son, Jerry J. Miessen; sister, Shirley Cleveland; three grandsons, Thomas, Eric and Jesse Miessen; and one granddaughter, Teri Ann Miessen.
Services entrusted to Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel.

Eileen Dora Miessen 81, of Indianapolis, passed away January 30, 2009. She was born July 6, 1927 to the late John R. and Ida Elizabeth (Berth) Dora. Eileen graduated from Warren Central High School and attended classes at Layne Business College. She married Warren O. Miessen in 1947. Eileen was a sales representative for Ryerson Steel for 31 years, retiring in 1992. She was an active volunteer for Community Hospital East since 1994.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Warren O. Miessen; son, Jerry (Tammy) Miessen; grandsons, Thomas, Eric and Jesse Miessen; granddaughter, Teri Ann Miessen. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Miessen; brother, John Dora and sister, Janet Hall.
Services entrusted to Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel.
