Note: At least one online genealogy shows Harry W. Van Wey was the son of Ira and Lettie (Rexroat) Wey. I believe he was an adopted son, and not a biological child of this couple, with whom he is listed as a son, age 10, in the 1880 census of Concord, Morgan County, Illinois. Later censuses also indicate a birth year of 1869 or early 1870. Reasons for doubting a biological relationship: (1) In 1870 Ira Van Wey was widowed, unmarried, and living with his older children at Concord, while Lettie Rexroad was living in McDonough County with her parents. This census was taken in late July when Harry was in likelihood already born. (2) The marriage of Ira and Lettie was 7 FEB 1873. Had it been a "shotgun" wedding, why wait 3 years after the baby was born? (3) Ira and Lettie were living as of the 1900 census, Blockton, Jefferson Township, Taylor County, Iowa. On that census, Lettie gave the number of children to whom she was a mother as zero. DLB 2018.

Edward Nash

Edward Nash, 75, of North Miami Beach, Fla., a former Peoria firefighter for 30 years and former acting fire chief, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Parkway General Hospital, Miami, Fla.

Born April 13, 1907, in Chicago, the son of Edward W. and Julia Dwyer Nash, he married Elizabeth Walker in 1927 in Peoria. She died in 1948 in Peoria.

He then married Marguarite Whitlow in 1950 in Peoria.

Named to the Fire Department in 1937, he served in every department capacity from switchboard operator to chief before retiring as first assistant fire chief in1967.

He was promoted to captain in 1947, assistant chief in 1949 and first assistant chief in 1964. He served as acting chief from June to December 1960.

He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and the Peoria Firefighters Retirees Club.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Edward W. of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Sue Doyle of Peoria; one brother, Francis D. of Peoria, a former Peoria city clerk; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Thome of North Miami Beach; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. One son preceded him in death.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at Wilton Mortuary and 10 at his church, the Rev. James D. Shaughnessy officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the mortuary, with scripture services at 8. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

He was buried in July 1982 in Saint Marys Cemetery, West Peoria, Peoria Co., IL, Findagrave #132517284.

Edward William "Bill" Nash, Jr., 64, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Springfield, died Thursday at his residence.

He was born May 29, 1929, in Peoria, the son of Edward William and Elizabeth Nash. He married Mary Ann Sick in 1950. Preceding him in death was a brother.

Mr. Nash was employed by Shell Oil Co., in sales and marketing, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Nash of Fort Myers, Fla.; daughter, Mrs. Jack (Deborah) Robertson of Springfield; son, Thomas Edward Nash of Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Michael (Suzanne) Doyle of Peoria; three grandchildren; and three nieces and two nephews.

Remains were cremated.
