Biography, per Geri Moulton, via Findagrave.com:

John Mauck was born in Opecquon, Frederick County, Virginia, the son of German immigrant Peter Mauck (1708-1771) and Juliana Rheinhart (1690-1750). He was married circa 1760 to Ann Delilah Zumwalt (1743-1801, and the couple had seven children: John Mauck, Jr.; Barbara Mauck Crabill; Catherine Mauck Crabill; Elizabeth Mauck Pittman; Johnathan Mauck; Peter Mauck; and Frederick Mauck.

After Ann's death, John married Christena Wiseman Painter (1750-1834, daughter of Philip and Katherine Wiseman) on 28 July 1806 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Christena had been married two times previously, to: Thomas Wiseman (possibly a cousin) and Mathias Painter.

In the fall of 1811, John and Christena emigrated to Harrison County, Indiana where he established the first regular ferry service on the Ohio River between Kentucky and Harrison County. John operated the ferry until 1818 when his son Frederick took over. He was buried in the first cemetery at Mauckport, Indiana, which was located just east of Mauckport across from the Lick Run Bridge. The cemetery no longer exists having been washed away in a flood. His daughter, Barbara Mauck Crabill(born 1765), joined her father and brother after her husband's death. She is probably buried in Harrison County.
