James Walter Brown's obituary:
James Walter Brown was born Oct. 19, 1881, and on March 14, 1959 at the age of 77 years 4 months, and 23 days. Just as a new day was dawning "His soul took its fligh"t, to that sweet rest prepared for such as he. Surely he has lived a Christ0like life and has "fought a good fight" and kept the faith, and was only waiting the call of the Saviour to come home to Heaven.
He professed faith in Christ in his boyhood days and joined the General Baptist Church at Garrett's Creek, then later moved his membership to Maple Grovel He was an ordained deacon and wa faithful to his God and his church until he reached the end of the journey.
He'll be sadly missed from his church, his community, and all his dear ones, and many, many friends, "But he leaves behind something that far out weighs the gold of this world, the memor of a life well spent in striving to serve the true and living God" and letting his life shine for Christ that it might brighten the the pathway of others he met day by day.
Many tmes we've heard his voice ring out in praise to his "Father in Heaven" both in word and in prayer. He liked to tell of the great love and grace of God and the many marvelous blessings he enjoyed as he walked hand in hand with Jesus along the way.
He was married when a young man to Mary Hawkins and eleven children came to bless their home. His life companion and one son and one daughter preceded him in death.
He leaves four sons - Rev. Curtis Brown and Bascom Brown, both of Scottsville, Ky. Rev. Tom Brown, Adolphus, Ky. and Ona J. Brown of Frankfort, Ind. Also five daughters: Mrs. Lucy Rippy, Adolphus, Ky., Mrs. Bessie Graves, Westmoreland, Tenn., Mrs. Lela Wolfe, Mrs. Jesse Nell Dalton, and Mrs. Jewel Marsh, all of Scottsville, Ky.
Surviving also are one sister, Mrs. NOra McGuffey and four brothers, Rev. Silas Brown, Rev. Clarence Brown, Willie and Odell Brown. There are thirty three grand-children and twenty four great grand children, with a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Walter has been ill for several weeks but bore his affliction with patience and courage. Just looking forward to the time when he would give back the "Spirit to the One who gave it", and reveive the "Crown of life" thats waiting for those that love and serve the Father in Heaven.
"Oh we loved you precious daddy
But God must have loved you more;
For he called you home to heaven
To that bright and shinning shore.
Someday we're going to meet you daddy,
In that home so bright and fair;
So be waiting and watching for us daddy,
We'll be together again, up there."

Obituary (Findagrave.com):
On Thursday morning, Feb 21, 1946, Mr. Walter Brownawoke to find that the death angel had come quietly and unexpectedly into his home and had carried away with him the spirit of his beloved wife, Mary.
Mary Hawkins Brown was born April 1, 1886 and departed this life February 21, 1046, age 59 years, 10 moths and 20 days.
She was married to Walter Brown December 27, 1903 and to this union was born thirteen children, ten of whom survive her, two babies having died in infancy and one girl at the age of twelve.
Mary professed faith in Christ at the age of thirteen joined Pleasant Grove Church where she was a faithful member and attended until she married. When she moved her membership to Garrett's Creek. Mrs. Brown was interested in church services and never failed to attend when her health permitted her to do so. She was always glad to testify to her hope in Christ Jesus, and in so far as she was able, she lived a consecrated life. During her last years, she was afflicted in both mind and body. These afflications and circumstances which did not exist and brought great trouble and worry to those whom she loved dearly. But when she was normal, she was a kind wife, a loving mother, and a good neighbor.
She and Mr. Brown have reared a large family of good and useful citizens. Two of their sons have been into the service of their country.
The mother was very much worried when her baby son was called into the Army and said, " I will never live to see him come any more to stay." She must have been warned of this, for Ona J. is still in service. She leaves to morn their loss, a kind and patient husband, Walter Brown, five sons, Toom, Curtis, Herman, Bascom, and Ona J., five daughters, Mrs. Noah Rippy, Mrs. Ausby Wolfe, Mrs. Johnie Graves, Mrs. Thurman Dalton, and Mrs. Lenard Marsh. Hawkins, Indianapolis, Indiana, four brothers, Taylor, Sam, Billy, and John, and five sisters, Mrs. Martha Hammock, Mrs. Vessie Pike, Mrs. Ruth Gilliam, Mrs. Bettie Brown, and Mrs. Laura Martin.
Her work on Earch is done her suffering o're, with outstretched arms, she waits at Heaven's door, To Greet her family, as one by on the death Angel bears them to that eternal shore.
