Mrs. Edward Scott

WAVERLY -- Mrs. Sarah Ann Starr Scott, 80, of Waverly, Rte. 2, near Omega, died at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday at her residence. She had been an invalid for 13 years.

A native of Ross County, she was born June 16, 1873 at Alma, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Starr. She was the last of a family of nine children. Her husband, Edward Scott died in 1948.

Surviving are two sons, Floyd and Eugene Scott, both of Waverly, Route 3, a daughter, Mrs. Golden McCollum of Portsmouth and four grandchildren. Mrs. Scott was a member of the Omega Methodist church.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the residence with the Rev. Richard Jarvis of Omega officiating. Burial will follow in Omega Cemetery under the direction of A. H. Boyer Funeral Home of Waverly.

Friends may call at the residence after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

She was buried in January 1954 in Omega Cemetery, Omega, Pike Co., OH, Findagrave #196026898.

Ober, Marilyn, 92, of Springfield, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 in her residence. She was born in Greenville, Ohio on April 13, 1921 the daughter of Charles Jesse and Leona Pearl (Sebring) Bruss. She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at Ethan Allen Manor and the K of P Home. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Carlisle and enjoyed playing Tripoly with her friends. Survivors include her seven children and spouses, John C. Ober, Peg (Larry) Brake, Joe (Marcie) Ober, Mark (Mary Carney) Ober, Marianne Ober, Doug (Colleen) Ober and Tom (Kristen) Ober all of Springfield; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1995 and her son, James in 1996. The family would like to thank Community Mercy Hospice for all their care and support. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Church Building Fund.

JESSE BRUSS, MAIL MAN 36 YEARS, DIES

Jesse Bruss, 78, a retired Greenville city mail carrier and former Darke county school teacher, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday (June 3, 1957) at the Kester rest home, five miles east of here (Greenville, Ohio), after a lingering illness.

Mr. Bruss carried mail on city routes for 36 years prior to retiring in 1947. Earlier he was a teacher for several years in one and two-room schools in Butler township, Darke county, where he was born and reared. His birthplace was at what is known as Bruss' corner, which derived its name from his family.

He had resided at 509 Sweitzer street in Greenville, and for more than forty years and was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed church here.

Surviving are his wife, Pearl; two sons, Herman of Columbus and Lowell of Greenville; a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Ober of Springfield; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Bruss of Dayton and four sisters, Mrs. Lucy Oda and Mrs. Mary C. Tamplin, both of Piqua, and Mrs. Mina Baker and Mrs. Kemme Slonaker, both of Greenville.

Services will be held Thursday at two p.m. at the Zechar funeral home here with the Rev. A. Kenneth Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Jefferson cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday.

He was buried in June 1957 in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fort Jefferson, Darke Co., OH.
